University of Missouri Bachelor of Journalism Transfer Guide for Metropolitan Community College This plan is intended only as a general guide based on requirements in the 2013-2014 University of Missouri undergraduate catalog. Check the following web sites for current course descriptions, prerequisites, course equivalencies and other specific details about the journalism degree: 1) College Catalog (http://registrar.missouri.edu) 2) Transfer Equivalencies (http://transfercourses.missouri.edu or http://transfer.org) 3) General Education (http://generaleducation.missouri.edu) 4) Missouri School of Journalism (http://journalism.missouri.edu/undergraduate) Admission to the Upper-Class Status and Emphasis/Interest Area - Transfer students are admitted to upper-class status in Journalism on a spaceavailable basis when they complete 60 credit hours, fulfill all prerequisites on page 1 of this transfer guide and establish a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in courses taken at MU. Completion of at least one semester at MU is required for transfer students to establish an MU GPA and qualify for admission. Because of that, students who plan to major in journalism are encouraged to transfer to Missouri after taking no more than 45 credit hours elsewhere. Students who transfer to Mizzou without any lower-division journalism courses (JOURN 1100, 2000, 2100, or 2150) will need at least three semesters to complete the lower-division journalism courses. For more information about the journalism program, contact the Missouri School of Journalism Undergraduate Advising at (573) 882-1045 or JournalismStudentServices@missouri.edu.
