CHAPTER 50 - EQUIPMENT DISPOSAL

53 - PREPARATION OF EQUIPMENT FOR SALE. The Forest Fleet Manager, a

Forest mechanic/inspector, or other designated qualified personnel must inspect any fleet equipment before it is transferred for sale.

Equipment not conforming to the preparation for sale requirements of this chapter shall be retained in the active fleet.

Except when noted on Form R2-7100-37, the equipment should be in good operating condition; normal wear excepted. The Director of Engineering must approve any major repairs.

53.1 - Equipment and Accessories to be Removed. Repair areas where equipment numbers and Forest Service door panel identification have been removed, if needed.

Destroy removed license tags.

53.2 - Equipment and Accessories to be Retained. The Director of Engineering must approve removal of any accessory items capitalized to a piece of equipment, such as house trailer propane tanks.

Tire chains, tow chains, logbooks, jacks, jack handles, lug wrenches, spare tires and wheels, and similar items, will be turned in with the vehicles for reassignment by the Forest Fleet Manager or for sale as accessories to the vehicle.

53.3 - Sale Documents. Use Form FS-6500-61, Fleet Equipment and Aircraft

(Accountability and Data Record) to transfer the equipment to Unit 97 for disposal.

Use Form R2-7100-37, Checklist of Standards for Describing Motor Vehicles, to list required data for GSA sale. Both forms must be received before disposal action will be taken.

53.4 - Cleaning and Servicing. Floor mats, seat cushions, and seatbelts should be in good condition. Wash rubber floor mats and paint with appropriate color rubber type paint. Clean and vacuum carpeted floor mats. Wash or steam clean the engine.

53.5 - Cost of Preparation. Washing, cleaning, and tire service are all operating expenses and should be charged to account 11-601 or 11-602 as appropriate.

Charge other preparation costs to management code 90637.
