Concentrate on highlighting those things that enhance the visitor or traveler's access to the National Forests. This includes scenic byways, other scenic routes, view points, trailheads, boat launching, and interpretive sites. Identify opportunities or restrictions in a general manner that avoids detailed information. Reference where or how the user can obtain additional information through special maps for snow play areas, off-highway vehicle areas, road restriction areas, and so forth. Special maps will provide more specific information about opportunities or restrictions referenced on the Forest Visitor Map. For road restrictions, let the public involvement process determine the need for special maps. On-the-ground marking and treatment may be all that is necessary. While avoiding repeating the Forest Visitor Map, use colors, scale, and materials to fit the intended use of the special maps.
