NOTICE IN TERMS OF SECTION 78 (3)(A) OF THE
LOCAL GOVERNMENT MUNICIPAL SYSTEMS ACT
2000 (ACT 32 OF 2000):
The City of Cape Town hereby gives notice of its intention to explore the provision of
alternative waste management services through external mechanisms. In doing, so it
will solicit the views of the public, as well as that of the work force, as required by the
Municipal Systems Act.
To determine the most appropriate mechanisms for the future provision of integrated
waste management services, the City’s Solid Waste Management Department will
undertake an extensive assessment process to ensure that waste minimisation, as
envisaged by the National Environmental Management Waste Act that came into effect
on 1 July 2009, can be implemented. This will be done in the form of investigations,
assessments and public participation and will lead to recommendations to Council.
