Healthy Active Living Education:
PAL 20F/M
This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that
promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement
principles to refine skill; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence,
fitness and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance
use and abuse; and the use of informed decision-making, conflict resolution, and social skills in
making personal choices.
Evaluation:
The Physical and The Health Education is based on participation and written
assignments. Attendance is CRITICAL for success in this course. Students must be in
class and actively participating to receive application (participation) marks. Poor
attendance and/or required assignments not submitted may result in an “incomplete”
mark (33%) until completed and submitted.
Uniform:
1. A regulation physical education uniform must be worn to each class. This consists of:
Wolverines’ Athletic Department T-shirt ($9.00),
Wolverines’ Shorts ($13.00), athletic socks, and running shoes.
2. If your uniform is unavailable, see your teacher before class. There are
Replacements..
3. Jewellery should not be worn to physical education class.
Changerooms and Gymnasium:
1. You have 5 minutes to change for class.
2. Students are responsible for their own valuables. Under no circumstances
should valuables be left in the changeroom.
3. Please consider the rights, health and safety of others in the changeroom. Avoid
behaviours that might cause accidents, keep the room neat and clean.
4. You must have a teacher supervising any activity in the gymnasium.
Accidents:
1. Report any accident immediately. We will provide prompt Medical attention.
2. Inform your teacher of any physical limitations that will hamper your participation
(injuries, rashes, diseases, etc.).
Excused From Class:
To be excused from class provide your teacher with a note from home at the beginning
of class, and be prepared to complete an alternative assignment. Participation
marks will be deducted for absences unless it is a school related activity and the student
has notified the teacher prior to the absence.

Learning Skills:
A letter value (E – excellent, G – good, S – satisfactory, N – needs improvement) will be
assigned using the following criteria:
Teamwork – to demonstrate good teamwork, students must collaborate and cooperate
effectively with other students when working on assigned tasks/ skills. They need to accept
responsibility for doing their part, but also encourage others in a group to do their best.
Organization – good organization means that students manage their time and resources
effectively. That includes setting goals, then making and following a plan to achieve them.
Work Habits/Homework – work habits include using time effectively, taking the time to
produce quality work and making good use of practice time/study time. Homework as part of
learning skill’s, refers to students routinely completing assigned homework completely and on
time.
Initiative – students demonstrate initiative when they seek out opportunities to learn and seek
help when they encounter difficulties. Initiative also refers to posing questions and taking
innovate approaches to problems.

In order to be successful in school, students should:
 Work hard, keep up with daily work and assignments and demonstrate
learning.
 Participate actively and positively in the learning and assessment process.
 Submit work on time directly to the teacher.
 Communicate with teachers when there is difficulty in meeting time-lines
Ensure that missed work is completed based on established time-lines
 Attend all classes on time and produce authentic notes for missed classes.
 Follow the school code of conduct (refer to WHSS student handbook).
 Communicate assessment and evaluation methods, due dates and time lines
for work to parents
