Technologies and lifetime expertise
for highest plant performance
A series of presentations showcases our visions and innovations for tomorrow’s business in the oil and gas industry.
Our wide range of high-performance solutions in electrical
engineering, power generation, transmission, and distribution, rotating equipment, automation, and water treatment
is based on leading technological knowledge as well as our
in-house product development and production facilities.
Backed by global engineering and project management
expertise as well as extensive experience in the implementation of complex projects, we offer comprehensive solutions for the entire lifecycle of an investment.
Answers for harsh subsea challenges
We supply products and solutions for power, distribution,
control, processing, and surveillance for subsea applications. The Siemens Subsea Power Grid – including MV
switchgear, step-down transformers, and variable-speed
drives – will become vitally important for widespread subsea processing. We began our marinization activities almost
two decades ago, and subsea technologies have since become an important business field that we are continuously
developing. Siemens is now one of the leading suppliers
of complete in-field subsea distribution systems comprising hydraulics, electrical, and fiber-optic components. All
components can be delivered individually or in complete
packages as part of umbilical termination assemblies/
heads.
Solutions for offshore drilling and production
For all types of mobile units and jack-up rigs, Siemens can
deliver proven solution packages that ensure reliable operation and availability – from power supply (including faulttolerant systems) through drives for all applications to
automation and management systems. Floating production,
storage, and offloading devices (FPSOs) require an integrated design of all topside solutions and the highest
availability and operational efficiency. We can meet this
demand thanks to our wealth of experience in providing
FPSOs with cutting-edge technologies and our comprehensive lifecycle services. Our portfolio includes complete
solutions for power generation and distribution, gas treatment, water treatment, compression and pumping, automation and telecommunications, and marine applications.

Powerful FPSO solutions:
From concept to operation
This presentation answers fundamental questions about
planning and operating an FPSO: What is the best drive for
your compressor – gas turbine or motor drive? Can overspecification of an FPSO’s electrical system be avoided so
as to reduce CAPEX? How can you best integrate the control
of hull and topsides into a single system? Will ultra-filtration
save space and weight? Our experts will respond with
reference to Siemens’ modular, space-saving topside FPSO
solutions and the integral parts of FPSO marine solutions
offered by. In addition, they will demonstrate the significant
impact on uptime, operational and capital costs, and even
the ability to meet demanding localization requirements
that can be achieved through careful consideration of all
alternatives.
Offshore drilling:
DP 3 – closed ring for offshore vessels
Innovative solution packages for offshore drilling that
ensure reliable operation and increase availability are in
high demand. These solutions are exactly what Siemens
has to offer – based on our extensive expertise in electrical,
instrumentation, and telecommunications (EIT), rotating
equipment, and water treatment solutions as well as years
of hands-on experience in the oil and gas business and
marine applications. Power management is of central importance for dynamic positioning: Failures in the power
system, components, or external faults should be imme
diately identified and isolated from the rest of the system.
In a DP3 system operating mode in closed-ring configuration this is exactly what happens. And in the event of a
malfunction in the primary protection devices, a backup
system will go into operation. Siemens has worked with
drilling majors and the classification society to develop
solutions for operating in DP3 mode with one fully integrated power system.
Siemens subsea technology:
Improved recovery and reduced costs
Subsea production applications and other enabling systems
help the oil and gas industry improve recovery factors and
minimize operating costs. Many of these technologies are
still in their infancy, and the innovation required for operations in ever-deeper waters places special demands on
solution suppliers. This presentation provides an overview
of our portfolio, which consists of five focus fields: power,
distribution, control, processing, and surveillance. Our
subsea power grid – integrating HV/MV power supply,
MV switchgear, step-down transformers, and variable
speed drives – will facilitate large-scale subsea processing.
Media filtration of low-API crude at elevated
temperatures
Siemens’ framework
for managing process safety
The Monosep™ high-flow walnut-shell filtration system
from Siemens has been proven to be effective at removing
free oil and grease and suspended solids in oil-field produced water, refinery wastewater, and numerous other
industrial wastewaters. A recent study has confirmed the
impact of low-API crude and elevated temperature
(75–90° Celsius) on the performance of the walnut-shell
filter media and the robustness of the redesigned backwash
system. In addition, Siemens tested a new proprietary media
for this application in a side-by-side comparison study
against black walnut shells. Laboratory testing has shown
this new media to be capable of producing water quality
similar to that of black walnut shell filtration, but with the
added benefit of being able to withstand significantly
higher oil loading and longer loading durations before
requiring a backwash. The results from a five-week pilot
study will be presented and discussed.
The workplace safety rule that focuses primarily on technical
issues for developing and implementing a safety and environmental management system (SEMS) in the United
States outer continental shelf (USOCS) has been in effect
since November 2011. A subsequent revision to the rule,
SEMS II – focusing primarily on employee behavior – has
been through the comment process and is expected to
be finalized shortly. SEMS applies to all lease operators,
facilities, and operations in the USOCS, from exploration
through production, and creates a significant challenge
for the management of change, hazards, integrity, and
safety-related information. Therefore, developing and
implementing compliant systems, in addition to meeting
regulatory requirements, can also produce substantial
savings, value enhancement, and risk reduction. These
systems can also significantly contribute toward integrating activities across all the elements of a SEMS program
and serve as a platform to support ongoing improvement
efforts. This presentation introduces Siemens’ “SEMS-ina‑box” framework for meeting these challenges through
design, construction, startup, operations, maintenance,
modification, and decommissioning, with a view toward
minimizing risk, reducing CAPEX, and controlling OPEX.
This presentation focuses on Siemens’ recently launched
twin-shaft variant of the successful SGT-300 gas turbine
for compression and pumping applications in on- and offshore applications. The compact SGT-300 mechanical driver
offers high efficiency, high availability, and low lifecycle
costs at a rating of 8.2 MW. Reliability is ensured through
the use of evolutionary proven technology backed by an
extensive product validation program.
