Two times more availability for InterGen – thanks to Remote Expert Center in Rijnmond and MaasStroom Service Solutions Reference Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical Corrective Maintenance Remote Expert Center offers immediate, professional 24/7 troubleshooting support for the process control systems of Rijnmond and MaasStroom. The Result ■ High availability based on 24/7 access to experts with unique troubleshooting skills ■ Minimal downtimes and outage costs thanks to prompt professional fault correction support ■ Reduced failure risk due to regular remote inspection services The Plant InterGen operates two natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants in the Port of Rotterdam. Rijnmond Energie, an 820 MW power plant with two gas turbines and one steam turbine, has been in operation since 2004. The new 428 MW plant MaasStroom Energie with one gas and one steam turbine started operation in 2010. With an efficiency level of 50-52 %, these power plants are among the best performers in Western Europe. The Task To ensure maximum availability in both power plants, a top-notch support agreement was needed for the advanced control systems SPPA-T2000/SPPA-T3000 and the electrical system SPPA-E3000. In addition to preventive inspections, this support also had to provide prompt, professional troubleshooting services for emergencies, so that InterGen could minimize plant downtimes and related outage costs. Our Solution The Remote Expert Center (REC) offers prompt, professional support for fault corrections in our electrical and control systems in the Rijnmond and MaasStroom power plants – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Thanks to the use of highly secure state-ofthe-art data communication technology, it is possible to remotely make diagnoses and necessary adjustments to the electrical and control systems. Relying on their development expertise and knowledge-based databases, our experts are uniquely qualified to troubleshoot faults. This keeps potential downtimes and outage costs to a minimum. Additionally, remote inspections are performed in the power plants to identify potential problem sources early on and reduce the risk of outages. The REC offers a service program which helps protect both power plants against unexpected disruptions – a double availability advantage for InterGen. “Benefitting from the know-how of experts and the OEM's extensive experience, we are able to optimally maintain our electrical and control systems and correct problems without delay. This ensures a very high availability level in our plants in Rotterdam." Arjan van der Stigchel, Plant Manager Rijnmond Energie and MaasStroom Energie Answers for energy.
