Appointing Chairs Friendship Prom – sometime before Christmas, call friendship homes, verify date ALICIA CURTIS Thanksgiving Dinner for International Students – HANNA OGAWA Cancer Relay for Life – go online, mark yourself as chair and get sign-ups, organizing walkers for the night, $1200 already – ARIANA Dance Marathon – same commitment as Cancer Relay for Life, will have 2 dancers – DANIELLE PORTFLEET Mortar Board Week and Visibility Projects (Mortar Board Awareness) – did a week in November to raise awareness, usually during week of Last Lecture for fall semester, have a table, put up posters – STEPHANIE NELSON Pumpkin Carving with CASA – getting 120 pumpkins, get pumpkins here and getting people to sign-up – MATT SMITH Stocking Stuffing for CASA – AMY GAGLIARDI Tanzanian Scholarships – don’t need a chair Compassion Child-Update – SARAH LIDGARD Nursing student –ALLIE HYLEN *Compassion Malaria Nets – DAN OWENS, will look for more project opportunities Disability Awareness and Cottage Upgrade – might be good for Alumni to donate to making a cottage disability accessible, already raised $2000 – ALUMNI CHAIR JOHN ZONA Professor Appreciation Night – IRMA CRUZ, around Spring Break time rather than last week Last Lecture Series – LEAH LABARGE Kiva-Update – JESSICA WELLS personal reasons, schooling costs, fruits and vegetables, lent out almost $3000, got $30 paid back recently Wearing of the Blue Breakfast – getting date set, invitations out to freshmen/sophomores on Dean’s List, getting a speaker, went well last year, overspent the budget by about $1000 but large turn-out – CHARLIE PATCHEK Presidential swap – second semester because of basketball game, advertising and setting date – SAM TZOU *See if there is a desire to continue these projects IV. New Project Ideas DRAW Greg Martin – youth director at church, series of Tornadoes hit in Alabama, disaster relief, want to do something to help, most homes were piles of rubble, trees down, sort through houses for valuables, patched roofs, people saw themselves as survivors not victims and wanted to help with recovery, major relief organizations missing some things that people need immediately following disasters, DRAW (disaster relief at work) began in March, supply chain into 5-gallon buckets, be the bucket people/bucket brigade, been to roughly six disaster relief areas [drawbuckets.org, facebook.com/drawbuckets], invite people to fill buckets, have a bucket list, customized for different disasters, if you want to go, will train on the way so anyone who wants to go can go, warehouse in Waterford, MI (2 hours away) awareness drive for stuff for the buckets bucket assemblers/organization get in the car HEIGHTS OF HOPE PROGRAM Stratford Apartment Complex old desktops in community center (used for tutoring programs), need new laptops WHOA need water bottles first prize for this summer ($500-700), local community project V. Nominations for the Last Lecture Series – would like to have first one this fall VI. Professor Pocock – NOPE Tim Schoonveld – Athletic Director Professor Jackson – Head of Business Department, Presidential Candidate, interesting resume Ernest Cole – English professor, refugee during civil war, awesome voice Montano – English department, entertaining, attention captured Professor Martin – Accounting professor, retiring Professor Emerson – English professor, Events and Conference, son been battling cancer Maxine DeBruyn – founder of Dance department, influential in many lives Dr. Hagood – cultural heritage class, History, connecting science and religion together Dr. Chase (second runner up) – Chemistry department/Biology and head of Neuroscience, very smart, relatable Dr. Johnson – Chemistry department, research, relatable Professor Hendrix – connects with internships, Accounting, looking to retire Vicki T (first runner up) – teach senior students, Advisor for Baker scholars, hinted at retiring, wise, ball of energy T-Shirts! t-shirts were handed out – wear Mortar Board apparel on meeting days order sweatshirts VII.
