CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITTEES
Budget and Appropriations
Dr. Louis Lobenhofer
The committee has completed its review of the University’s financial results for the last two fiscal
years and the budget for the current year. We will be looking at preliminary considerations for
the 2005-06 budget.
Academic Affairs
Dr. Laurie Laird
The committee met on 10/27/04 on the topic of a +/- grading system. Each college representative
reported on his/her meeting with his/her respective college dean. There is not strong support by
the deans for further action on this topic and the committee does not perceive significant faculty
concern on the issue. Therefore the committee will not be exploring or discussing the topic further
Student Activities
Dr. Andrew Roecker

Personnel
Prof. Terry Keiser
The committee continues to examine the tuition remission policy. Other current matters include
faculty compensation and specific priorities within that area; part-time faculty pay scales; health
care issues, sabbatical leaves, etc. The committee will be meeting soon with the Budget and
Appropriations Committee to discuss overall budget matters.
Committee on Athletics

Cultural and Special Events
Dr. Edwin Williams
The Cultural and Special Events Committee will meet on Monday, December 13 in McIntosh
Room 8. We will continue discussion on events for 2005-06.
Information Technology

International Affairs
Dr. Anne Lippert
The committee met on October 27th and heard reports on fall term international enrollment;
admissions initiatives; study abroad activity; resumption of Sakae ESL program next summer; and
the new Intercultural Center.
Attachment I
HONORARY DEGREE NOMINATIONS, 2004-05
Dennis W. Archer earned a B.S. degree in education from
Western Michigan University. He then taught learning
disabled children at two Detroit public schools from 196570, while he earned his Juris Doctor degree from Detroit
College of Law.
Mr. Archer worked in private practice and was a partner in
several Detroit firms. He also served on the faculties of
the Detroit College of Law and Wayne State University Law
School. After initial appointment as an Associate Justice
of the Michigan Supreme Court he was elected to an eightyear term in 1986.
Mr. Archer later served two terms as
mayor of the city of Detroit, and was president of the
National League of Cities in 2001.
Mr. Archer served as president of the National Bar
Association in 1983-84, the State Bar of Michigan in 198485, and more recently as president of the American Bar
Association. He was the first person of color elected to
the highest office of the association.
Mr. Archer
presented the Kormendy Lecture at Ohio Northern in 1990.
Daniel S. Guy earned a B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan
University, J.D. from Ohio Northern, and LL.M. and S.J.D.
degrees from the University of Michigan. He is a native of
Westerville, Ohio.
After service in the U.S. Army Adjutant's General Office,
Mr. Guy was an Assistant Attorney General of Ohio and
Congressional Fellow as a staff member for the Judiciary
Committee. He joined the Ohio Northern law faculty in 1959
and served until 1973 when he left for the University of
North Dakota. He returned to Ohio Northern in 1977 and
served as dean of the Pettit College of Law from 1978 to
1984. He resumed full-time teaching in 1984 in the fields
of civil procedure, land use planning, and legal history.
Mr. Guy retired in 1999 and is presently Emeritus Professor
of Law.
Dan Guy's dedication to Ohio Northern and the Pettit
College of Law for over forty years has been remarkable.
He has been a generous contributor to the University.
William L. Robinson earned a B.S. Ed. degree from Ohio
Northern in 1961 and a M.A. degree from Bowling Green State
University. Prior to coming to Ohio Northern
he served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He is a member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American
Veterans.
Mr. Robinson's career at Ohio Northern over forty years
included service as assistant football coach, sports
information director, dean of men, director of McIntosh
Center, director of admissions, director of alumni affairs,
executive assistant to the President, and interim vicepresident for development. Students,
alumni, faculty and friends of Ohio Northern know him
simply as "Robby: Mr. ONU."
Mr. Robinson's active public service career includes 14
years on the Ada Board of Education (president of the board
for 10 years) and current membership on the Ada Village
Council. He was Ada's "Citizen of the Year" in 2000. He
has been a generous contributor to the University.
