Spring Semester Auditions Auditions for the spring semester productions, the Devised Project with the Hinterlands and The Children’s Hour will take place on Monday, November 24 from 3-5pm and 7-10pm in the Main Theatre. Auditions will be by 10 minute slot and you can sign up for your slot in the Main Theatre lobby. Experienced theatre students should prepare two contrasting monologues and a cut of a song (if they wish to be considered for the Hinterlands piece - see below for more detail). If you are interested in the Hinterlands piece, please prepare a short song - something not originally from a theatrical production and that isn’t contemporary pop music either. It doesn’t have to be a folk song per se but it shouldn’t have been on the pop radio charts in the last 5 years either. No longer than a minute. For those who do not have prepared material, cold readings are provided at the audition and require no preparation. All Members of the Hope College Community are encouraged to audition. The Hinterlands Workshop #3 The Hinterlands are returning Sunday, November 23 to continue their series of workshops in preparation for the devised piece that will open in February. The aim of the workshop is to establish a vocabulary of devising, which we will collectively build upon in further workshops throughout the semester, and ultimately into the production process. This workshop will be followed on Monday by auditions for the Spring Semester productions. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to work with this innovative, genre-defying group. It is an immersive introduction to the ensemble's 32-year-old original training methodology layering individual and group work, rigorous physical training with improvisation, design, dramaturgy, the voice, and work with objects and flying. Participants work closely with the multi-national Double Edge ensemble, and work indoors and outdoors at Double Edge's rural/international center in the hills of Western Mass. Spring Immersion: January 25 - April 25 Mentored by the core artists of the ensemble, participants train daily, take part in design labs, vocal exploration, dramaturgy sessions, and large object work that fuels the creation of their own work. As a special feature to the Spring Immersion program, participants will have the opportunity to train with a host of Double Edge collaborators, including a week exchange with SITI company; two weeks with Albuquerque’s Qstaff theater (specialities include singing, physical training and stilting); and master classes with guest artists from Russia, Poland, Hungary, and Argentina. In addition, participants will experience The Grand Parade on tour at the Redfern Arts Center (Keane, New Hampshire) and Arts Emerson (Boston, MA) and watch the work-in-progress of Double Edge’s Latin American summer 2015 performance.
