Arts and History Treasure Trove—a Springtime Day Trip to Ann Arbor, May 22, 2012
Take advantage of an extraordinary Arts and History opportunity by visiting the University of Michigan in Ann
Arbor, Tuesday, May 22, 2012. We will depart by bus at 7:30 am SHARP to arrive on campus and begin our
first stop which will be the beautiful Albert Kahn-designed William L. Clements Library. There we will view
“The War of 1812: A Bicentennial Exhibition” with the Curator as our guide. We will also have the special
opportunity of viewing its Rare Book Room with original manuscripts dating to Christopher Columbus. Next
stop is lunch provided by the world famous Zingerman’s Deli. After lunch, we will visit the University of
Michigan Museum of Art, including its impressive new 53,000 square foot Frankel Family Wing. We will view
a special exhibit by the noted artist Haroon Mirza, who magically combines sound with the visual arts in his
work. Also on view will be the “Curator’s Choice of Recent Acquisitions”. Docents will accompany us
through all the exhibits. Time is allowed for personal browsing through the entire collection throughout the
recently completely restored museum building once known at Alumni Memorial Hall. We’ll end the day
crossing the street to walk through the historical Law Quadrangle and take a “silent” walk through the world
renowned Law Library. We will arrive back in Holland at approximately 6:00 pm. Cost per person is $50.00,
including transportation, lunch, snacks, and museum gratuities. Limited to 47 members.

Rathskeller German Restaurant. Options missed on Wednesday can be explored afterwards. Friday morning,
it’s off to the racetrack, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, for a guided in-bus tour of the track and garages and
