The purpose of my business is to assist entrepreneurs and manufacturers in transforming ideas into tangible products. Please describe what your organization can offer to NYS manufacturing companies: I have nearly 20 years experience working for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, where I held various engineering and marketing/product development roles. I use this experience to help manufacturers and inventors turn their ideas into profitable products by evaluating the product's specified materials, available manufacturing methods, volumes, and cost targets, in order to optimize the product's design within those constraints. Please describe/list the number and types of products and/or services your organization sells. 1. CAD Work - Ideas, sketches or existing products are converted into electronic files. These can then be used for patent applications, to create dimensioned manufacturing drawings, or to create photo-realistic renderings for presentations and marketing purposes. 2. Design & Engineering - Concepts are fully developed to meet all necessary pre-determined criteria, as well as being optimized for manufacturing efficiency and sales potential. 3. Rapid Prototyping - Using 3D printing and other methods, a concept is brought to life as a static model or fully functioning prototype. These are ideally suited for use in presentations, sales pitches, market research, physical testing, and more. 4. Product Marketing - Sales materials can be developed in tandem with the product's design to ensure an accurate and consistent message. Deliverables include packaging, logo design, product manuals, and brochures. Please describe your organizational supply chains (describe the major supply chain or supplier types that your organization serves/sells to, and buys from): I mainly serve small manufacturing companies and entrepreneurs/inventors. Most of what I provide is service-related (engineering/design expertise), but I also provide prototype parts. I typically get my commodity materials locally (Home Depot, Lowes) or from online sources (McMaster-Carr, Afinia) and build the prototypes in-house. For more complex parts I work with local and regional machine shops. Industry (please describe your organization’s major industry sector(s)/sub-sector(s) classification): Most of my company's work to date has been in either the Medical Devices or Consumer Durables industry. Which organizations do you consider as the major organizational competitors? Please list organizational names My main competition comes from companies that have internal design or R&D departments. Generally, I don't consider other Engineering Firms as competitors because they typically are working on much larger scale projects. How many years has your organization been in business in New York: Less than 2. I officially formed the LLC in March 2012, though I had been doing related freelance work for approximately 6 months prior to that. Please describe any notable accomplishments or successes you have achieved or facilitated for your customers: Most of my successes involve taking a completely new product idea and developing it into a working prototype or pre-production part that performs successfully. Some specific accomplishments include: - Developing various fixtures that helped reduce assembly time. - Re-designing an existing product to allow a better customer experience by improving the usability and reducing operator error. The design changes also resulted in cost reductions to the product. - Designing and manufacturing (in limited quantities) an accessory part for a marginally successful product. Sales of the original product are expected to increase now that its minor design flaw has been resolved by the accessory part. With a background in mechanical engineering and an MBA focusing on both Marketing and Entrepreneurship, I can develop products with a technical understanding of their design and functionality, while also considering the business implications like cost targets and sales potential. I have spent most of my professional career, nearly 20 years, working for small and medium sized manufacturing companies. During this time I've been exposed to numerous manufacturing methods and materials, ranging from forged and cast metals to injection molded plastics, along with various machining and processing techniques. I was also intrigued with 3D printing technology early on, and have adapted that into my portfolio over the past 2 years. These background skills combined with the hands-on knowledge I've learned in factory settings have given me a clear focus on the product development process. I'm able to comprehend not only how a customer wants a given product to function, but also how the various materials, manufacturing methods and volume requirements will affect the product's overall design, so I can focus on designing profitable products that will exceed expectations.
