What is the CVC?
The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign
is the annual charity drive for employees
of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Why give to the CVC?
•All charities participating in the CVC have been pre-screened to ensure that they are fiscally
sound and that they perform the services stated.
•Payroll deduction allows you to budget your contribution throughout the year through
regular automated giving.
•100% of your designated contribution goes to the charity or charities stated. No
administrative fees are taken by the CVC on designated contributions through workplace
giving.
•Giving through the CVC minimizes the intrusive personal solicitation that might occur if you
participate in multiple direct fundraising drives. While we have no control over the
solicitation calls at home from charities, state employees should not be solicited by nonprofits at work sites.
•The CVC operates for and by state employees under the Executive Order of the Governor.
•There are many opportunities to give. The CVC accepts cash, check, payroll deduction, or
credit card gifts.

Campaign Associate Responsibilities
You are the role model, educator, liaison, and energizer.
Plan the strategy that works for your department.
Make contact with your colleagues to let them know that you are their
campaign associate and resource for any questions about the campaign.
Make sure your colleagues know how to access the charity directories
either through the VCU CVC site or the State site (or let them know about
the paper directories).
Encourage co-workers to payroll deduct and designate their contribution
to an agency or agencies of their choice.
Campaign Associate Responsibilities
Encourage them to give at least $2 per pay period.
Follow up throughout the campaign, but don’t pressure.
Encourage employees to give on-line—that’s easiest for you and the
campaign. Only use paper or electronic cards if necessary.
If paper pledge cards are used, please check to make sure that the
employee’s name is legible and that the card is signed.
Once completed--(for 3-part cards)--give pink copy to the contributor for
their records and keep the white and yellow copies. For electronic, make
three copies for reporting purposes.
For Paper Pledge Cards
Complete and submit Campaign Associate reports once week regardless
of the number of pledge cards.
Place pledge cards (white and yellow copies), money/checks and report
in envelope clearly marked “CVC”
Hand deliver in sealed envelope to Cashier or drop box.

the employee make the donation online and and clip a
paper copy of the online donation with the cash/check.
Fund Raising Principles
People are more apt to give when we make it personal
They give to meet human needs and support aspirations . . .
Especially in a tough economy.
Someone must ask for a gift.
Giving must be proportionate to the ability to give.
The best prospects are previous contributors.
If they give, say thanks!
New this year!
Pledges made online between October 1st – 15th and
will be entered automatically to win 4 one-day park
hopper park passes to Disney World! Passes give
admission to all of these theme parks for one
day: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and
Animal Kingdom.
Passes are valid until August 1, 2016 and valued at
$496.
Plan Fun Ways to Raise Funds
Have a cookie or bake sale.
Guess the number of candies in a jar. The winner gets the
candy.
Talk about charities during a staff meeting or show the CVC
video.
Invite a speaker from one of the CVC charities to talk with
your group.
