Types of Debate in MUN

Formal Debate
• Staff (secretary) maintains a speaker’s
list and delegates speak in order they
are listed
• Delegates have an opportunity to share
their country’s point of view on topic
• Delegates will introduce their position
papers, answer questions, introduce and
debate about resolutions
Types of Debate in MUN

MODERATED Caucus
• Temporary Recess: formal procedures of
debate are suspended
• To go to Moderated Caucus, a delegate
must motion for it and the whole
committee will then vote for the motion
to pass.
• More intense than formal debate
because there is more cross debate
Types of Debate in MUN

UNMODERATED Caucus
• Temporary Recess
• Delegates meet with each other
