Statistical Process Control, Quality Costs & Quality Audits

COURSE DESCRIPTION and OBJECTIVES

Study of statistical, costs and audit methods used in quality, lean and six-sigma.

Specific topics include sampling, probability, analysis of data, capability studies and control charts. This is a hands-on course that is spreadsheet based with minimum math and theory.

Prerequisites: MTH 1454 and QCT 1313.

SPECIFIC TOPICS:

Descriptive Statistics

Identify Quality Costs

Prepare and perform Quality Audit

Sampling Plans on inspection data and audits

Control Charts for variables & attributes

Analysis of variance - ANOVA

Basic probability and applications in sampling

Current specifications and standards of Statistics, Sampling and Audits

Application of methods in Class Project

All methods discussed in class will support practical problems to be worked in

Computer Lab and 2/3 of class time will be in lab or working on Project.

COURSE MATERIALS

Textbook, “ Introduction to Statistical Quality Control, Douglas C. Montgomery, 6 th edition Wiley Press.

EVALUATION TECHNIQUES

At the beginning of each class period there will be a short quiz worth 50 points. The purpose of the Quiz (open book) is to evaluate the student’s working knowledge of statistics in typical situations. The quiz material is cumulative, that is, may be taken from any of the previous lectures.

Homework assignments are 25 for EACH Problem due by Midnight of assigned date.

Homework will be given on Students Flash Drive and answers submitted in class or if after class by email. Late homework assignments ( those received after midnight on due date are 10 Points each maximum.

There will be two projects ( Sampling Problems ), worth 150 points due before

November 15, 2014. Two Hour and a Final exams worth 150 points each. Quiz and exam will be open-book format and will require exact answers.

ATTENDANCE

Students that have a special problem with work schedule now or later in the semester should contact me immediately so that arrangements may be made, if possible.

Class attendance and participation are essential in order to achieve a level of understanding that will contribute to the comprehension of the course material. A Quiz will be given at the beginning of each class period and if the student is late or absent the Quiz cannot be made up.

Exams that are missed may be made up before November 15 in the Testing Center.

Special Exams will require a special test and they will require 3 to 4 weeks after the class test to prepare.

Projects are due November 15.

GRADES

Percentage is based upon the highest grade in the class. An allowance of 150 points will be deducted from the highest grade to provide the student with absences from class or a low quiz score.

FAILURE-TO-WITHDRAW POLICY

Failure to withdraw may result in the student’s receiving a regular grade of “F” at the end of the semester.

PLAGIARISM POLICY

Plagiarism is claiming, indicating, or implying that the ideas, sentences, or words of another writer are your own; it includes having another writer do work claimed to be your own, copying the work of another and presenting it as your own. Handbook. Plagiarism will result for a “F” grade for the assignment.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY OR MISCONDUCT

Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned nor tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Academic dishonesty is behavior in which a deliberately fraudulent misrepresentation is employed in an attempt to gain undeserved intellectual credit, either for oneself or for another. Academic misconduct is behavior that results in intellectual advantage obtained by violating a specific standard, but without deliberate intent or use of fraudulent means.
