• Born in 1881 in Spain
• Began drawing at age 7
• His mother and father and
cousins encouraged him
• At 19 he moved to Paris
and studied in the Louvre
• He painted for 75 years in
many styles
• He was a creator of

• He had a time when many of his paintings were in
shades of blue, his “blue period”

A couple of years later he was happier and his
paintings had more color
This is called his rose period
In 1907 he began painting in what would be
known as cubist style
