Collegiate Academy Phoenix News! February 8, 2016 Message from Mrs. Knutz: Students and Parents, Student Council is excited to raise money for spring activities by selling Valentines for delivery next week. Collegiate Academy and TCC NEwill be in session on Monday, February 15! Don’t forget the 10th grade Parent 4 year plan meeting at 6:30pm in the Common Area on February 15. Speak Up Speak Up is a new app being introduced by the GCISD counseling department. Please see counseling attachment for more information! Tarrant County College NE Reminders It is extremely important that you hold your students accountable in their college classes, by making sure they are doing their homework, checking on their grades in TCC Blackboard, and reminding them of the privilege they have been given to get two years of free college towards their career. Also, remind them that this is not a class they can take lightly, they must use every resource available to pass the course. TCC offers a language lab, a writing lab, a math lab and a student success lab with TCC instructors available to tutor students. CA also offers an academic tutor during their foreign language lab or study hall period on Friday and on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. The CA faculty is always available to support students in their college classes. Students that are not being successful in their college classes are in danger of not earning an associates degree. We want all of our students to earn an associates. It is possible, but it means hard work, endurance and a “never give up” attitude. Please contact me or Mrs. Walden if you need more information. TCC NE Requirements for CA students As our students are increaseingly on the main college campus, TCC NE has asked us to remind our students that in our agreement with TCC NE our studnets will wear a lanyard with their ID visiable at all times on campus. The ID must also be used to check-out books from the library and to use the langauge lab. During the fall semester TCC NE was lenient on this policy, this spring they are going to be requiring the ID and lanyard. Please discuss with your student the improtance of following TCC NE’s request. If a student has lost their ID, a new one can be purchased first by going to the business office and paying a $10 fee, then going to the library with proof of payment and taking a new picture ID. If the fee is a concern, please contact Mrs. Walden. If you need a lanyard stop by the office, we have one waiting for you. Please wear your ID every day at CA! This is a safety concern and must be followed. Monday Night Tutorials Collegiate Academy is committed to supporting all students on this rigorous academic journey with instruction, tutorials and a quiet place to study. On Monday, February 1, we will begin hosting after school tutorials from 4:30pm 6:00pm with late bus service provided to Mustang-Panther Stadium. Any student is welcome to stay and study or get extra help. However, it will be mandatory for any student that has a grade under a 75 in any college or high school class. The first progress report is January 29. The student’s progress report grade will determine their assignment to the Monday Night Tutorial. Students will be assigned the tutorial until the next Progress Report grade is posted. All Collegiate Academy students signed the expectations for students agreement before being accepted to CA. The last entry states the student may be assigned additional tutorials if their grades are below 75. (The Student Expectations agreement is attached.) Our desire is to see all students earn credit in every class, every semester! Remember: Never, never, never give up! Winston Churchill College Visits In April all freshmen will visit Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth. Texas Wesleyan offers the two years free tuition to any CA student that has maintained a 3.0 or better in their college classes at TCC NE. This is an exciting opportunity that all of our students can achieve! Also in April, sophomores that would like to visit Texas Christian University will be able to sign-up for that tour in MAPS. Counselor’s Corner! PSAT score reports were distributed through the MAPS classes on Friday. Your student should have theirs to share with you. See Mrs. Walden’s webpage for more information!
