Message from Mrs. Knutz:
Students and Parents,
The Get On My Level event at Camp Carter was a fabulous experience for all that
attended. Thank you to TCC NE for providing this opportunity for us. We hope in
June to have 196 students celebrating their success!
I am looking forward to the Spring Semester at CA. We continually strive to be
the Best and one way is to listen to our students. After listening to their concerns,
we are making changes to our spring schedule. Students were able to pick an
additioanl high school elective for the spring semester. Those choices included,
Money Matters, Sound Recording, Philosophy, Principles of Health Science and
Yearbook, to list a few. Students that have not passed their Reading TSI are in
small reading classes to provide the help, support and skills needed to be college
ready in reading. These classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
PowerHour will become a study time of choice. Students can get help in any high
school class, go to the library (Mrs. Haney will be there to provide support), go to
the Language Lab or form study groups on their own. We believe this tweak in
the schedule will provide students more opportunity to take courses they are
passionate about and provide tutorial support in a more effective and productive
manner!
Our greatest days are just ahead! We had more students pass more college
classes than ever, and not just numbers, percentages! Your students are
amazing! Thank you for letting us be part of their educational experience!
TCC NE Requirements for CA students
As our students are increaseingly on the main college campus, TCC NE has asked
us to remind our students that in our agreement with TCC NE our studnets will
wear a lanyard with their ID visiable at all times on campus. The ID must also be
used to check-out books from the library and to use the langauge lab. During the
fall semester TCC NE was lenient on this policy, this spring they are going to be
requiring the ID and lanyard. Please discuss with your student the improtance of
following TCC NE’s request. If a student has lost their ID, a new one can be
purchased first by going to the business office and paying a $10 fee, then going to
the library with proof of payment and taking a new picture ID. If the fee is a
concern, please contact Mrs. Walden. If you need a lanyard stop by the office, we
have one waiting for you. Please wear your ID every day at CA! This is a safety
concern and must be followed.
Monday Night Tutorials
Collegiate Academy is committed to supporting all students on this rigorous
academic journey with instruction, tutorials and a quiet place to study. On
Monday, February 1, we will begin hosting after school tutorials from 4:30pm 6:00pm with late bus service provided to Mustang-Panther Stadium. Any student
is welcome to stay and study or get extra help. However, it will be mandatory for
any student that has a grade under a 75 in any college or high school class. The
first progress report is January 29. The student’s progress report grade will
determine their assignment to the Monday Night Tutorial. Students will be
assigned the tutorial until the next Progress Report grade is posted. All Collegiate
Academy students signed the expectations for students agreement before being
accepted to CA. The last entry states the student may be assigned additional
tutorials if their grades are below 75. (The Student Expectations agreement is
attached.) Our desire is to see all students earn credit in every class, every
semester!
Perot Museum
Please remember to turn-in your permission slip with $10 on January 12!
On January 14, before college classes begin, we will take an all school field trip to
the Perot Museum. Every core class (Math, Science, Social Studies and ELA) will
have an assignment that day for students to complete while at the museum. The
cost is $10. Your student should have received a permission slip from their social
studies teacher last week. Please return them before the Winter Break, if
possible, so we will all be ready to attend on January 14! Also, please see Mrs.
Walden if you need help with the cost. We are planning on 196 students
attending and all teachers! We will release at 2pm on that day!
Destination Imagination
The Collegiate Academy Destination Imagination teams need your assistance
please! In our first year as a campus, we were proud to take three teams to the
Mid-Cities Regional Destination Imagination competition. We were ecstatic when
all three teams placed because the Mid-Cities region is highly competitive. This
year our program has grown, and we are excited to take SIX teams to this
competition at South Grand Prairie High School on February 27! Since we are
taking six teams to the competition, we need six appraisers and six tournament
helpers to compete. Please read about the opportunities to help us make the day
memorable for our students. We would love to have you with us!
