November 22, 2015 Message from Mrs. Knutz: Students and Parents, Collegiate Academy and TCC NE will be holding classes November 23 -25 even though GCISD schools are closed for Thanksgiving Break. College classes and high school classes will go on as usual. GCISD transportation and Nutrition services will be working as normal. We will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, November 25 at 3:20pm. Congratulations to the Collegiate Academy students of the month for October! Monday Night Tutorials In an effort to help your student learn the importance of meeting deadlines, we will continue Mandatory Tutorials this coming Monday, November 23. Parents, please check with your student to see if they are assigned the Monday tutorial. You should also be receiving an email from a CA teacher if your student has been assigned. Bus service to Mustang - Panther Stadium will be available at the conclusion of the tutorial. Students should arrive at Mustang – Panther Stadium around 6:30pm. Camp Carter: Get On My Level Event All students with an 80 average in their high school and college classes and no failing grades will be invited to a celebration at Ft. Worth YMCA Camp Carter with zip lining, rock wall climbing, cook-out and many other exciting activities. We want all students to have an opportunity to go to attend. Opportunities to Give The PTA is still collecting new or slightly used shoes. Please donate this week! See attachment STUCO is hosting a canned food drive to help supply the GRACE pantry over the holidays. Each teacher is competing to see who can gather the most items by December 11th. Please help us to support GRACE by reminding your student to bring the following items: Canned fruit and vegetables, chicken broth, sugar, flour, gravy mixes, pancake mixes, cranberry sauce and cooking oil. STUCO News The Grapevine Parade of Lights is Thursday, December 3. We are still looking for a 53’ trailer or something float worthy. Please let us know ASAP if you have a connection to one. We have a driver, but we need a trailer! The students are working tirelessly to create an awesome float!! It will be great night. Ice Skating Over 40 students attended our first ever ice skating night at NyTex Sports Center. No broken bones and everyone had a great time! Movie Night is coming in January with Karaoke included by popular demand! Who will win this year? Phoenix Basketball Our coed Phoenix basketball team played Collegiate South on Saturday, November 14. They played hard and were leading most of the game. However, Collegiate South came back to win in the final moments. So proud of our basketball team! Also, a special thanks goes out to Doug Wright, Alana’s dad, for officiating. We will be playing more games in December…stay tuned! Counselor’s Corner! We are so excited that the TCC Northeast chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has been working on a project with our students called "What's on Your Plate." The project celebrates the many roles that students play in their lives and how they manage everything they "have on their plate." Collegiate Academy students have created artistic plates to display at a symposium in Center Corner on Monday, November 30th from 6:00-7:30 PM. There will be second symposium held at the Keller Library on December 5th at 2:00 PM, if you are unable to attend the one on November 30th. Please join us to see the outstanding creations our students have made! The Grapevine North Pole Express has arrived! Students may sign up for several volunteer opportunities from now until December 24 in downtown Grapevine. Your student has a login and password. If they do not remember it they can call the TCC help desk at 817-515-8324. There may be times you have questions about how to help your student advocate for himself or herself in his/her college classes. Your student's MAPS teacher would be happy to help with this. Please feel free to contact your student's MAPS teacher with questions you may have as you help support your student's academic success. Brain Breaks-Learning to deal with stress is one of the most important things a student can do to help them be successful and meet their goals. Mrs.Walden will be available in Rm. 1237, the Maker-Space to talk with students about strategies to deal with stress they maybe experiencing regarding homework, friendships and how to juggle the demands of being a college and high school student. On Tuesdays Mrs. Walden will be available from 12:30 to 1:00 PM and Thursdays from 2:00 to 2:30 PM. Please encourage your student to attend and email Mrs. Walden with any questions.
