5th Grade General Music Lesson Plans Week of January 6th, 2014 Week’s objectives: 1. Students will correctly identify (read) and write note durations in 4/4 meter including whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, triplet notes, and 8th notes along with corresponding rests. 2. Students will correctly play & sing various rhythmic patterns containing duration notes listed above. 3. Students will describe the dance and musical style characteristics of the following ballroom dances: Foxtrot, Meringue, Polka, Jitterbug, Tango, Line Dance. 4. Students will identify the countries of origin for the Foxtrot, Meringue, Polka, Tango, Line Dance. Activities to assist in achieving the objectives: Continued from last week 1. Mad Hot Ballroom Dancing – Students will watch other 5th grade students learn how to ballroom dance. a. Vocabulary terms learned: Foxtrot, Meringue, Polka, Jitterbug/Swing Dance, Tango, Line Dance 2. Class discussion – compare and contrast the styles of the different teams competing for the Ballroom Dance title. a. Worksheet to match definitions and characteristics of different ballroom dances. 3. Begin steps for the Meringue dance. a. Discussion on the origin of the dance, style of music, and instrumentation
