Marketing 11 Course Outline Teacher: Miss Singh Block 1 Room 301 Course Description: Welcome to Marketing 11! This course will allow you to learn the basics of marketing concepts with a retail focus. Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to apply your marketing skills in various projects. This is a great course for anyone who plans to continue their education in Business, or anyone who would like to develop skills required for employment. Course Objectives: 1. 2. 3. 4. Develop an understanding of marketing concepts, operations, and techniques as they apply to retailing. Develop skills required for employment or for further studies in retailing. Specific skills include creative thinking, communication, decision making, time management, goal setting, organization, planning, research and strategic planning. Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary for success in retailing. Develop your own personal business plan for a business of your choice. Materials and resources: Pen, pencil, binder, agenda During some lessons, you will also need to bring pencil crayons or felts. Often assignments require you look through magazines at advertisements. If you have any old magazines at home that you could contribute to the class it would be appreciated. Evaluation Evaluation for this course is both continuous and cumulative. Your grade for this course will be based on the following: Assignments/quizzes 30% Projects/Presentations/Tests 60% Time Management & Attitude 10% Expectations Treat everyone with respect and courtesy No food or drink in the computer lab! Due to equipment abuse in the lab, students will be assigned seating. Students will be responsible for functionality of their workstation equipment. When lecturing, hands should be off keyboards (same for student presentations) Attend all classes and arrive on time. If you are going to be away, notify the school ahead of time. See Miss Singh for any missed work. Group work is an important element of the course. It is very important that members are chosen to complement your working style. When you are assigned group work, please choose members that you can work with and rely on. To ensure that everyone is doing their fair share of work, major projects and assignments will contain a peer evaluation component.
