Make the Story Problem organizer and highlight a problem you wish to share with the class. Use flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary that you are presently using in this Science lesson. Make flash cards that show how to divide fractions. LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE SWBAT evaluate expressions involving equations and ratios using the academic vocabulary: ratio and equivalent ratios. Students will know that most earthquakes occur at plate boundaries when rocks break and move along faults using academic vocabulary: liquefaction and tsunami. Students will perform calculations and solve problems involving simple division of fraction using the academic vocabulary: quotient, dividend, and divisor. STANDARDS By the end of the week, students will be able to evaluate an algebraic expression for a given situation, using up to one variable. They also be able to solve simple ratio problems. By the end of the week, students will know how to determine the epicenter of an earthquake and know that the effects of an earthquake on any region vary, depending on the size of the earthquake, the distance from epicenter, and building structure. By the end of the week, students will be able to solve problems involving division of positive fractions. ESSENTIAL QUESTION How can you represent a situation using variables and ratios? Why is it important to know the various hazards from earthquakes? How do you divide fractions? HOMEWORK Check problems 1-18, page 144 to 145. Do CPM Section 6.1 and 6.2.
