SUBJECT (Week 14) Date: 16 - 20 Nov 2015 Room 45 – W. Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 5 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 4 & 6 B-Read Math Triumphs Math Intervention Period 3 DO NOW ACTIVITY Use your flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary being used in this math lesson. Make the Story Problem organizer and highlight a problem you wish to share with the class. Use flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary that you are presently using in this Science lesson. Make flash cards that show how to multiply fractions. LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE SWBAT evaluate expressions involving whole-numbers, variables, and exponents using the academic vocabulary: one step linear equation. Students will know that most earthquakes occur at plate boundaries when rocks break and move along faults using academic vocabulary: seismic wave, epicenter, primary wave, secondary wave. Students will perform calculations and solve problems involving simple multiplication of fraction using the academic vocabulary: factor. STANDARDS By the end of the week, students will be able to evaluate an algebraic expression for a given situation, using up to one variable. By the end of the week, students will know how to determine the epicenter of an earthquake and know that the effects of an earthquake on any region vary, depending on the size of the earthquake, the distance from epicenter, and building structure. By the end of the week, students will be able to solve problems involving multiplication of positive fractions. ESSENTIAL QUESTION How can you represent a situation using variables? Why is it important to know where geologic events occur at plate boundaries that affect people lives and property? How do you multiply fractions? HOMEWORK Do problems 1 – 57, page 139 to 141. Do CPM Section 5.3 and 5.4, page 235 to 252. Copy Week 14 Academic vocabulary. Make the foldable on page 243. Copy the Target your Reading on page 245 and answer all questions. Copy and answer questions 1 to 8, page 258. Copy Week 14 Academic vocabulary. Copy and answer questions 1 to 32, pages 21 to 24. Do Examples 1, 2, and 3 Your Turn on pages 19 and 20. TEST Your test will be problems 1 to 20 on homework, page 139. Your test will be on the 8 questions on page 258, Lesson 2 Review. Your test will be Lesson 3-3 Multiply Fractions, problems 1 to 32, pages 21 to 24. SPECIAL EVENTS Thanksgiving Break from 23 to 27 November. No School. Extra credit: Make a working Seismograph and show how it works. We will explore seismographs in Science Lab this week. No School from 23-27 Nov 2015.
