We would appreciate it if parents would act as a “guide on the side” while students complete their work. ▪ 30 minutes of reading and reading log every night Monday – Thursday ▪ Beyond that, we will assign homework that can be completed in no more than 50 minutes. If your son or daughter is working on their homework longer than that, please let us know and we can work together to find a solution. Please keep in touch – xxxx@wcpss.net Reading – st 1 Quarter ▪ Students will explain what the text says by using quotes from the text. ▪ Students will make inferences by using quotes from the text. ▪ Students will identify character challenges based on the text. ▪ Students will compare and contrast literary elements using details from the text. ▪ Students will identify common Greek/Latin affixes and roots to as clues to help them understand the meaning of a given word. Math – st 1 Quarter ▪ Students will fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm. ▪ Students will find whole number quotients of whole numbers with up to 4-digit dividends and 2-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, such as an area model and expanded notation. (The algorithm is taught in 6th grade.) ▪ Students will read, write, and compare decimals to the thousandths. ▪ Students will understand powers and multiples of ten and how these concepts apply to our base-ten number system. ▪ Students will use place value understanding to round decimals. ▪ Students will use concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value to add and subtract decimal numbers.
