WORLD WAR I Unit 5 Chapter 7 Lesson 3 CHANGES IN COMBAT • New technology emerged during WWI that made it a very bloody war • Old and new strategies combined on the battle field • Tanks in the West and Horses in the East WHAT WAS TRENCH WARFARE? • Series of trenches dug in the ground to avoid enemy fire. • Resulted in a STALEMATE because neither side could gain any land. • Dirty, disease ridden (lice, trench foot), lots of death. • The average lifespan in the trenches was only a few weeks. • No Man’s Land TURN AND TALK – WHAT DO YOU SEE?
