Please read:
We are attempting to teach your student to be a fluent speaker of French after a mere 36 weeks of
85 minutes every other day. Not accounting for all the time your student might miss for assemblies,
concerts, sporting events, or just sickness, that is only 6800 minutes or 4.7 days of language
instruction. In order for your student to speak French, then time, attention, and effort must occur
outside of the classroom by your student. Please know that your student DOES HAVE HOMEWORK
EVERY NIGHT. For homework, I require that my students get on the computer and study
vocabulary with word champ (http://www.wordchamp.com), complete a variety of linguistic and
cultural projects, and watch and practice their language on my website
(http://www.lakeridgeutah.org/french).
INTERNET REQUIREMENT: Because of the nature of the class, students are required to have
access to Internet to complete their assignments. In order to register on the class website and word
champ, they will need an email address. Please help teach your student online responsibility, and
help them by writing their email, username, and passwords down in a secure location, that both
you and they can access.
ALTERNATIVES: If students have no access, or infrequent access to Internet, please read the
following. I have a small lab of 10 computers available for student use. These computers are for
foreign language students to complete homework, not for gaming or wasting time. They are
available from 7:30 to 8:00 in the morning, and from 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. Please make
arrangements to have your students use this resource to be able to complete their homework.
HOMEWORK: Not doing homework will result in mediocre learning and the inability of students
meeting the goal of proficiency in French. The homework can be completed by the student, and
without the assistance of parents. There should be no excuse for deficiencies in homework
completion.
DATES: Here are the dates of important tests and events. Please plan to have your student in
attendance for these things. Quiz dates and homework dates are listed on the syllabi each term.
