How will you know you have arrived? 2) What must you do to be saved? What rules or rules must you follow? I’m meant to be happy and valued (Creation) I’m not physically attractive enough because I’m overweight (Fall) I can change through will power, exercise, weight loss (Redemption) I hope is in that when my body is transformed, I will be loved (New Creation) I want people to value me for who I am (Creation) But people value success, athletic achievement, academics (Fall) I will do whatever it takes to succeed, win, or make myself more valuable (Redemption) My hope is when people will look at me and see how valuable I am (New Creation) Why Weight Watchers is like “Church” What story have you set aside as “holy?” Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. The GOSPEL is the good news that we don’t have to be slaves to THAT story anymore The GOSPEL is the good news that that we can lay down the areas of life where we have to trust in ourselves 4 foundational TRUTHS of GOSPEL 1) GOD is great, so we don’t have to be in control 2) GOD is glorious, so we don’t have to fear others 3) GOD is good, so we don’t have to look elsewhere 4) GOD is gracious, so we don’t have to prove ourselves Courtroom The assumption is that people will ask if you live this way Either because they find you interesting or they find you weird Another assumption is that you WILL suffer for this Romans 5 Luke 18 ONE: You shall have no other gods before Me. Fall How do they describe their struggles? What do they feel is their most pressing problem? What do they feel they lack? Who or what do they think is responsible? Redemption What do they think will make life better? What provides a sense of escape or release? Who or what will deliver their hopes? What are their functional saviors, heavens, hells? New Creation What are their hopes? What is the long-term project to which they are working? What are the dreams for which they make sacrifices? Have they given up on this happening?
