There are three possibilities on each anniversary in the three-year term:
1. If the volume is higher than one-third of the three-year forecast, the
customer is leveled up.

customer is leveled down. If the customer is on Level A and doesn’t
meet the forecast, that pool will be terminated from the agreement so
no additional orders can be placed against it.

Server & CAL Licensing Model
• Servers licensed in the Server/CAL model require a CAL for each user/device
that accesses the server:
• You must acquire and assign a CAL to each device or
• user that accesses your instances of the server software
• directly or indirectly. A hardware partition or blade is
• considered to be a separate device.
• The only time a CAL is not required is when access to a Windows Server is
unauthenticated and conducted through the Internet. For example
unidentified users browsing a public Web site such as www.microsoft.com
• This exception does not apply to SQL, Exchange, SharePoint etc

User Vs. Device CALs
There are 2 types of CALs to choose from:
Device CALs you can choose to acquire a CAL for each specific device (used by any
user) accessing your servers. Most economical and simplest option for
organizations with multiple users sharing one device, such as shift workers.
User CALs acquire a CAL for every named user accessing your servers (from any
device). Best option for organizations with many roaming employees needing
access to the corporate network from unknown devices and/or employees who
access the network via multiple devices.
Only CALs covered with SA can switch from one type to another

Instead of purchasing an individual CAL for each external user, customers
can purchase an External Connector license which provides unlimited CALs
for external users for a single server.
Breakeven: 70 x Windows CALs = 1 x Windows EC
Internal users (ie. staff) will still require CALs however as the External
Connector only covers external users.
– “External users” means users that are not either (i) you
– or your affiliates’ employees, or (ii) your or your affiliates’
– onsite contractors or agents.

• Server/CAL - requires a Server license for each physical/virtual
environment in which the software will be run plus a CAL for each client

• Per Processor - a license is required for each physical or virtual processor
accessed by an operating system environment running SQL Server. CALs
are not required. Only processors require licenses, cores do not.
