THE THEATRE “The Space” You should probably think about taking some notes. You never know when a test might come on this stuff, and you would want to know the information. Well it’s up to you…I’m not going to make you take notes. THE THEATRE “The Space” TYPES OF THEATRE’S Theatre-in-the-round Actors perform in full view from all angles. Minimal scenery and limited space leave the audience to create with their imagination. Theatre-quarter theater Often an awkward arrangement because actors cannot use the front of the stage without alienating portions of the audience. Similar consequences as theatre-in-the-round. STAGE STAGE TYPES OF THEATRE’S Two-sided theatre Very few of these types of theatre’s still exist. This runway-like stage is used for combat and minimalist shows. All entrances and exits must be from the same side. STAGE End stage theatre This one of the most common spaces. It creates a box-like impression in which the actors are separated from the audience by the proscenium. There is plenty of room to hide the sets and costumes backstage. STAGE TYPES OF THEATRE’S Thrust stage theatre This is another common arrangement for a theatre space. It, just like the end stage theatre, provides plenty of room backstage. However it, unlike the end stage, provides the actor the opportunity to get close up to the audience. STAGE PITLOCKRY HALL This is La Habra High School’s space. It was designed to be used as a Lecture Hall, not as a theatre, and that creates some interesting problems for a theatre performance. But it is a unique combination of an end-stage and a thrust stage, with no seats on the side STAGE COSTUME ROOM Parts of the Theatre GREEN ROOM CYCLORAMA (CYC) STAGE WINGS BACKSTAGE LEGS FLY SPACE FIRE CURTAIN THE MAIN PROCENIUM THE HOUSE APRON BOX OFFICE MEZZANINE & BALCONY LIGHT BOOTH LOBBY LOBBY MAP OF THE STAGE UC UR R DR R OF C C UL L OF C DC (THE AUDIENCE) L DL LIGHT PLOT 3RD ELECTRIC 2ND ELECTRIC 1ST ELECTRIC LIGHT BOARD DIMMER PACK AP’S SPOT LIGHTS THEATRE SPACE EMAIL ASSIGNMENT Your assignment is two fold: first to become more familiar with different types of theatres and secondly to demonstrate your computer and internet skills.
