E-Line Room Control: SBC launches energy-efficient, flexible
and networked room automation system

Specially developed for installation in electrical distribution units

Fully programmable

Compatible with many room operation devices
Murten, March 2015 – At this year’s ISH, the world’s leading trade fair for energyefficient heating and air-conditioning technology and renewable energy, SaiaBurgess Controls AG (SBC) is presenting its PCD1 E-Line series, a new family of
products for energy-efficient room automation. Following completion of a pilot
phase, the products are now available.
Modern room automation needs to be flexible and networked while also meeting the
energy efficiency targets stipulated by DIN EN 15232. The new Saia PCD1 E-Line
product range from the Swiss technology company also supports multi-service room
automation with applications and function modules for heating, ventilation and air
conditioning (HVAC) as well as light and shade. Flexible combination of modules and
programming with template objects facilitate energy-efficient operation as well as simple
and safe commissioning.
Frank Braunroth, head of Marketing and Communications in Germany: “We are pleased
to present a redesigned E-Line at this year’s ISH. The insights gained from the pilot
phase and the feedback from our partners have gone into its development, and now we
can present a convincing and well-engineered product that can be ordered effective
immediately.”
Compact design, easy commissioning
The E-Line was specially developed for installation in electrical distribution units,
meaning that it conforms with the standard dimensions stipulated in DIN 43880, and can
be installed not only in control cabinets but also in electrical subdistribution equipment,
considerably reducing installation costs. Its compact design makes automation possible
even in the most confined spaces. Modern push-in terminals make installation
convenient; the modules can be wired quickly and efficiently without tools. All terminals
are pluggable to help prevent wiring errors during servicing. Every input and output has
a status indicator for easy diagnosis during commissioning and servicing.

Fully programmable modules – stand-alone use possible
E-Line is perfectly adapted to the various requirements of room automation. The
modules for HVAC, light and shade can be organised in any centralised or
decentralised configuration and are suited to applications in room automation, zone
control or decentralised automation. They are fully programmable and can be used as
stand-alone solutions. The benefit: these stand-alone solutions, for example individual
rooms equipped with a DALI module, can later be integrated without problems via a
head station. The head station, e.g. a floor controller, controls the exchange of data
among the individual modules. All Saia PCD controllers can be used to control the ELine modules, which can be programmed with the Saia PG5 Suite.
Fast engineering – intergenerational compatibility
The integrated function libraries EnOcean, DALI, HVAC, etc. provide preconfigured
solutions for typical room control tasks. In practice, these program templates help with
basic engineering for applications such as hotel rooms and offices. The new E-Suite
library expands the functionality with preconfigured solutions for the automation of room
electricity use and climate control. For over 30 years, Saia PCD has stood for full
programmability and intergenerational compatibility, with the benefit that applications
can be modified and loaded during operation at any time. SBC’s lean principle also
applies for the E-Line: once installed, these rugged products including the hardware
have a long life cycle of over 15 years. All modules are upwards-compatible, protecting
the customer’s investment.
