October News October themes October is a very busy month in first grade. We will discuss and complete projects dealing with Columbus Day, fire safety, Fall and Halloween this month. Please look for books and vocabulary words to read and practice at home. Bring your smile to school for school pictures! School Photo day is Wednesday, October 12th. Please remember to send in your child’s photo envelope with your selection if you wish to purchase. Fire Prevention Week Fire prevention week will begin on, October 9th. Please discuss and review the fire safety rules with your child. We are also encouraging children to learn their address and phone number. Remember... STOP DROP AND ROLL! Crystal Cave Field Trip We will be going on our first field trip to Crystal Cave on Monday, October 31st. Raindate, if needed, will be Wednesday, Nov. 1st. We will tour the cave, pan for rocks and enjoy the outdoor activities. Please dress for the weather. We will be outdoors all day. Remember to bring a bag lunch with a drink and your name on the bag. Please do not send any additional money with your child. Each child will have a bag of gems to bring home with them. Also, remember to bring your good behavior. We look forward to a fun day of learning. Author Day This month’s author is Gene Zion. He is the author of Harry the Dirty Dog books. We will be sharing books throughout the month to highlight his work. Snacks – please make sure that the snacks you send for your child are of the “healthy variety”. We ask that you do not send candy as a snack. Thank you! Halloween Parade and Party Our Halloween party and parade will be on Thursday, October 27th. We will parade around the school community and the party will be in our classroom immediately after. Please put your child’s costume in a bag with his or her name on the front. Also, please make sure your child can put on their costume with minimal assistance. Homeroom parents will be available, but time is limited. Thank you for your cooperation. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Reminders... *School store is now open every other Wednesday! *Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the chilly Fall weather!! *Practice and review vocabulary in your child’s study book and planner. You may want to make flashcards for fun, easy review. *Begin to memorize learned addition facts.
