Each and every single day there is something that is involving and changing to be greater
and to improve as the last. In today’s world technology has grown fast and steadily. Decades
upon decades technology has advanced very heavily that is quite remarkable. The question still
remains where would we be without technology? One thing for sure is the amount of time it
would take to accomplish a task.
More than half of the students in our classrooms own
a smartphone. Ever since 2007, smartphones have
become very popular and grew with technology as
what we know today. However; 2007 was not the first
site of a smartphone. Smartphones have a combine
capability with a cell phone and a computer. The
endless possibilities you can accomplish with a smartphone, from gaming to music, from texting
to surfing the web, from sharing a photo to paying a bill and updating your status on Facebook to
checking and sending an email.
So, how does a smartphone work? The question is so simple, but has quite a complicated
answer. “A smartphone is one device that can take care of all of your handheld computing and
communication needs in a single, small package” (How Smartphones Work). A smartphone
requires the same operating system like a PC (personal computer).

Everyone has their own opinion of what the number one smartphone is. The iPhone is the
operating system for smartphones manufactured by Apple. This could vary from personal
experience or simple because everyone has one. However; statistics
don’t lie, Apple is the number one vender and simply iPhone keeps
improving and changes with technology. IPhones were introduced in
January 2007, five years ago. Apple has released 5 versions that have
become very popular to college students, professors, and for business
purposes. At the time of the release this smartphone, was very different unlike any other
smartphone. The display screen made it accessible to any user. The front had one button and the
display was touch screen. The iPhone has multimedia features that allow the user to create their
own sense of style. While using iTunes, it can allow the user to synchronize the type of music
they love into their phone. Apple distributes more than 350,000 applications for the iPhone
through the iTunes library.
Announced in 2008, was the Andriod. Android is a Linux-based operating system led by
Google. However; Google acquired Android Inc. on
August 17, 2005, making Android Inc. a wholly owned
subsidiary of Google Inc. Android are popular due to
the features that other phones may not have. Some of
these features include alternate keyboards, removable
storage and battery, and among other features.
The phone BlackBerry was acknowledged in our world in 1999. “Blackberry introduced
smartphones as business machines; their users will be able to connect to an intra-company
cellular service” (How Smartphones Work). BlackBerry phones were originally designed for

business purpose such as saving the company money. If an employee often traveled, the
BlackBerry would be responsible for sending and receiving emails. The phones come in a variety
of shapes and colors. Many smartphones today have a touch screen display and maybe that is
part of a reason why people choose a BlackBerry.
The reason we chose this topic was to represent how far
technology has come. As we began to talk more in class regarding
the word technology, we realize that more than half of the class had
smartphones including us. We knew instantly, our video project
will deal with smartphones. The only question was how to include this in an interesting way that
would appeal to college students. In many class professors always try their best to avoid students
from cheating. Dr. Mazur, from Penn State
Greater Allegheny asks her students to bring all
belongings to the front of the class and the
students are only allowed to have a pencil at
their desk. At California University of
Pennsylvania, another professor asks her
students to remove hats and also only have a pencil on their desk. With that being said we chose
our video title “How to Cheat with a Smartphone.” In our video we realize that teachers today
know the ins and outs of how students cheat but as technology involves greatly, teachers will
have to be more aware of their surroundings when it comes time for his/her students to take a
test.
