Planning the Instructional Presentation
Before you complete this document be sure to go to your assigned topic website,
read about the features and functionality of your application,
and review any “educational” materials like tutorials, FAQs, and term of use.
Instructions: Using Microsoft Word, document your plan for the instructional presentation assignment
by responding to the following statements completely. You will submit this document with your
PowerPoint presentation to explain your rationale for Assignment 3. Upload both files (“attach” and
“add another file”) in Bb/Assignments/Assignment 3. You may want to email this document to
yourself to keep a back-up copy.

2. What is the problem or need for your instruction – what gap does it fill? [For example, <my target
audience> has a vested interest in <something>. <my application> can facilitate this process much
more efficiently than traditional applications because it offers <describe features>. Without an
understanding of <my application>, <my target audience> is limited to <describe the problem>.]
Students, Faculty, and Staff have a vested interest in creating “word clouds” using Wordle.net.
Wordle.net can facilitate this process much more efficiently than traditional methods, such as
Photoshop, because it offers pre-made layouts and ways to adjust the “word cloud” to the users
preference. Without an understanding of Wordle.net, students, faculty, and staff are limited to using
less effective programs such as Photoshop, Paint, or PowerPoint. Using Wordle.net is a faster and
easier way to create “word clouds”.
3. My target audience can be described as:
Students, faculty, and staff of the College of Education.
4. Following is a full description of my target audience including anticipated age range, prerequisite
knowledge, motivations, and other characteristics.
My target audience includes: undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff of the College of
Education. They will have an age range of 18-60, which is a very large range. They all should be
familiar with computers to some extent. They should know how to use most Microsoft Office
programs. If they have a prior knowledge of Photoshop, then Wordle will be a good tool they can use
in conjunction with Photoshop. They should be motivated to learn about Wordle because it can
become a valuable instrument to them when doing graphic design projects, such as creating posters,
shirts, presentations, and more.
5. [You will design your presentation as if you were delivering it online.] Describe the learning
environment (context) where each subset of your target audience will likely participate. What are their
available resources and constraints?
Students, faculty, and staff of the College of Education will likely participate on their personal
computers or computers in the library for students and office computers for faculty and staff. The only
constraint with using Wordle would be the inability to access the website. As long as the participant
has a computer with the internet, they can utilize everything Wordle has to offer.
6. The goal/s for my intervention is/are:
Trainees will learn how to create and edit word clouds using Wordle.
7. In order to reach my goal/s my target audience must be able to do all of the following. [Organize
these tasks in a sequence where each builds upon the other. For example, <my target audience> must
be able to (1) access the <application> website, (2) create an account, (3) login, <and other similar
tasks>.]
The students, faculty, and staff must be able to: (1) access Wordle.net (2) type in or copy and paste a
bunch of words into the text box,(3) edit the world cloud’s font, layout, and color scheme to the users
liking.

have one objective for each task identified in #7 and the objectives must be written for your target

(2) create a word cloud, using Wordle, that will contain certain words bigger than others.
(3) edit the font, layout, and color scheme of their word cloud, to their liking.

My online assessment activity will call for learners to navigate to Wordle and then create a word cloud
and edit it to their liking.
10. The flow of my instructional presentation incorporates the assignment expectations and Gagne’s 9
Events of Instruction. An outline of my instructional presentation follows.

Wordle is a great tool that can enhance someone’s abilities within graphic design or people
just looking to make a cool effect. It’s great for t-shirts, collages, presentations, posters, or
anything else you can think of. The best part is, any art you make on Wordle is your own.
So you are free to do as you wish with it.

(10e) Stimulate recall slide <state how you will connect your topic to what learners may already

You may have already tried to create a world cloud using Photoshop or PowerPoint. This
may be a difficult task with these programs. But with Wordle it only takes a matter of
seconds to create perfect word clouds.

practice skills either along the way or near the end>
