Lesson Plans August 25th – 29th
World Geography
Standards:
Objectives:
Monday –
-Review previous material over the 5 themes.
-Go through the Geography Skills Handbook with the students.
-Do this as a whole group and then after each section have students work on questions
with a partner which will then be discussed as a class.
-We will also go through some of the maps in the map portion as well.
Tuesday –
-Review previous material. Really go over map reading and latitude/longitude.
-Finish whatever we did not get to today.
-Students will then work with a partner/small group on various map reading activities.
-Students will also work on reading various charts and figures.
Wednesday –
-Review previous material.
-Go through some of the key terms from the Chapter.
-Review the entire chapter and go through some map reading examples.
-Review the 5 Themes.
-Quiz tomorrow.
Thursday –
-Students will take a Chapter 1 Quiz on information, the 5 themes, and map reading.
-When finished, we will begin discussion over Chapter 2.
-They will tell me what they know about the earth and we will discuss what the chapter is
about.
Friday –
-No School. State Fair.
Current History
Objectives:
Monday –
-We will discuss some of the news stories that occurred over the weekend and their impact.
-Watch CNN Student News.
-Best and Worst of the weekend.
-Write in journals about what they learned today.
Tuesday –
-Discuss news stories from the day before.
-Watch CNN Student News.
-Students will discuss news stories in small groups (2 groups). Look up articles for a bit, discuss
them and their impact in small groups.
-Write in journals about what they learned today.
Wednesday –
-Discuss news stories from the day before.
-Watch CNN Students News.
-Students will write a 3x4 and look up a weird news story.
-Students will write about the weird news stories in their journals.
Thursday –
-Watch CNN Students News.
-Students will discuss news stories in a large group setting, discussing how each story is
impactful.
-Students will write about this in their journal and then hand in their journal for the week.
Friday –
-No School. State Fair.
American History
Standards:
Objectives:
Monday –
-Review previous material about the establishment of the colonies and their rights.
-Continue notes and discussion over Section 1.
-Look at the Guided Practice on p. 57. (link of representation to taxation)
-Discuss the difference between internal and external taxes.
-When finished with notes and discussion, students will make a timeline and annotate it
with events that led up to the American Revolution and the actual fighting.
Tuesday –
-Review previous material and answer the questions from the PowerPoint as a class. Discuss the
impact of the beginning of the Revolution.
-Have students work in groups to read the Declaration of Independence and work on the
worksheet associated with it.
-We will discuss this as a whole class at the end.
Wednesday –
-Review previous material and hand in their assignments from the day before.
-Begin notes and discussion over Section 2.
-Go through the lesson objectives.
-Look at the Guided Practice on p. 67.
-When finished, break students into groups to work on American Revolution battle posters.
Thursday –
-Review previous material.
-Students will work on their posters. These will be due next Wednesday (likely).
Friday –
-No School. State Fair.
Psychology
Objectives:
Monday –
-Review previous material.
-Continue notes and discussion over Chapter 1.
-Do the Discussion on p. 7.
-Do the Teacher Note on p. 7. Have a discussion about this. (pros & cons)
-Have students do Figure 1.4 with a partner. Will discuss as a whole class.
Tuesday –
-Review previous material.
-Continue notes and discussion over Chapter 1.
-Look at and discuss Figure 1.5.
-Try the Lab Experiment and Demonstration on p. 12.
-Do the Study and Writing Skills on p. 14 for an assignment.
Wednesday –
-Review previous material. Spend a lot of time reviewing and comparing what we’ve learned.
-Continue notes and discussion over Chapter 1.
-Discuss observation by students and if they’ve ever “people watched.”
-Discuss the Specialty Fields in Psychology and look at Figure 1.9.
-Potentially do the Cooperative Learning Activity on p. 16.
Thursday –
-Review previous material.
-Finish up any notes or discussion as necessary.
-Students will then work on a review of the Chapter, the vocabulary version for today.
-This will be due Tuesday.
Friday –
-No School. State Fair.
Government
Standards:
Objectives:
Monday –
-Begin notes and discussion over Chapter 1 Section 1.
-Ask questions from the Introducing the Chapter on p. 17.
-Do the Motivating Activity on p. 18.
-Go through the objectives for the first section.
-Discuss state, nation, and nation-state. Talk about Kurdistan and the Middle East here.
-When talking about what makes a nation, discuss developed and developing nations.
Tuesday –
-Review previous material.
-Finish notes and discussion over Section 1.
-When finished, students will work in small groups to answer questions from the slides.
We will discuss these at the end of class today or the beginning of class tomorrow.
Wednesday –
-Review previous material and perhaps the questions from the day before.
-Go through the objectives for Section 2.
-Begin notes and discussion over Section 2.
-Do the Bellringer and Motivational Activity on p. 24.
-While discussing these, particularly the politics aspect, note how far away we have
drifted from this.
-Have a discussion about which of the purposes is most important/least important and
why.
Thursday –
-Review previous material.
-Finish notes and discussion over Section 2.
-Discuss the question on the last slide.
-Give a Guided Reading over Sections 1 and 2 as well as 3 and 4 for the students to look
at for next week.
Friday –
-No School. State Fair.
World History
Standards:
Objectives:
Monday –
-Review the objectives and anything we covered last Friday.
-Continue notes and discussion over Section 1.
-Compare and Contrast Minoans and Mycenaeans and their cultures.
-Also discuss the deities.
Tuesday –
-Review previous material.
-Finish notes and discussion over Section 1.
-Discuss how geography impacted the development of the two civilizations.
-Ask students what they know about Greek gods and goddesses and discuss this.
Wednesday –
-Review previous material.
-Go over objectives for Section 2.
-Begin notes and discussion over Section 2.
-Do the Bellringer and Motivational Activity on p. 98
-Discuss our definition of Tyrant and Greek definition of Tyrant.
-Have students answer questions on a slide as homework.
Thursday –
-Review previous material.
-Have students work on a worksheet over all the sections of the chapter.
Friday –
-No School. State Fair.
