R.A.F.T stands for restate the question, answer the question, find evidence to support your answer, and tell your connection. The students learned that there are three parts to a connection (Tell, Tie, and Take-away). The students read an informational article called, Hurricane Sandy: Aftermath, and responded to a question using R.A.F.T format. Students color-coded the different parts of RAFT in their answer. This week in writing, the students reflected on their writing journal entries. The students noted strengths and weaknesses in their writing. The students also created a timeline as a planning tool, or rehearsal for their personal narrative story. They created grabber openings for their personal narrative and began drafting. Science News This week in science, the students prepared Power Point presentations about their jobs from their trip to Buehler. The students learned how to insert a picture into a Power Point presentation so that they were able to personalize the presentation. We will present these to our classmates on Monday. Math News In math, we finished Topic 5. Students worked hard to master two digit divisors. It is a difficult concept, but they all did a wonderful job. We finished the week by working on estimating quotients with larger numbers. And now, we are preparing for our test, which is on Tuesday, November 20th. Social Studies News The students are researching the six Native American Tribal regions (Eastern Woodlands, Plains Indians, Southwest, West, Northwest, and Arctic). The students are researching various facts including: location of the tribe, shelter, clothing, religion, culture, traditions, and communication. Students are focusing on how the geography, climate, and natural resources of the region affected the lives of the Native Americans who lived there. Lastly, the students will be creating a booklet presenting the facts for each tribe.
