COURSE DESCRIPTION
This lecture course in anatomy and physiology will review the following topics: introduction
anatomy and physiology, levels of body organization, homeostasis, parts of a cell, plasma
membrane transport, protein synthesis, mitosis, tissue level of organization, cell junctions,
membranes, integumentary system, bone tissue formation and growth, axial skeleton,
appendicular skeleton, joints, muscle tissue, sliding filament mechanism, neuromuscular
junction, and skeletal muscle movement, nervous tissue and action potential generation, spinal
cord, spinal nerves, brain, cranial nerves, sensory-motor systems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
 Demonstrate knowledge of anatomical terminology

 Demonstrate knowledge of the axial and appendicular skeleton and joints

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
 Reading must be completed prior to the class for which it is assigned
 Student must come to class with all necessary material and books
 Participate in class discussions
EVALUATION METHODS:
Attendance/participation:
(5%) P/F, attendance is required, see ATTENDANCE below
Lecture Grade- AVERAGE OF 5 LECTURE TESTS
FINAL GRADE = 50% Lecture, 50% Lab
A failing average in either Lecture or Lab will result in an F final grade for the course.
ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to attend each lecture and laboratory session on a regular and punctual
basis and to complete assignments in a timely fashion.
All students are allowed one absence.
On the 2nd absence a paper/essay/research assignment on a topic chosen by the instructor. Must
be handed in by last day of class or reduction of final grade by one-half grade.
On the 3rd absence there is a reduction of one full grade.
On the 4th absence the person receives an “F”.
Any missed exam will require an excused absence to make up the exam.
ONLY 1 MAKEUP EXAM ALLOWED PER SEMESTER
TWO DAY TIME LIMIT (FROM DATE OF ORIGINAL EXAM) FOR TAKING A
MAKEUP.
THE STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING TRACK OF ATTENDENCE, GRADES,
AND ARRANGING ATTENDENCE ASSIGNMENT AND MAKEUP EXAM IF NEEDED.
