Instructional Goals

Class Description : Students will study the history of the United States since Reconstruction to the present. This class picks up where 8th grade History ended. Historical content focuses on the political, economic, and social events and issues related to industrialization and urbanization, major wars, domestic and foreign policies of the Cold War and post-Cold War eras, and reform movements including civil rights.

At the end of this course, you will:

Identify the significant eras of U.S. History

Know content vocabulary

Study significant individuals who have shaped our country

Know the causes and effects of numerous military conflicts

Understand the effect history has on our everyday life

Blue or black pen only

#2 Pencils for tests

Colored pencils (No markers)

Spiral notebook

Composition book

Cuero High School Student Guidelines for Success

Gobblers are….

Polite, Proud, Prepared, and Positive

Classroom Rules:

Be in the classroom when the bell rings and prepare to work on warm-up

No talking when teacher is talking or during a tests

Raise your hand to be acknowledged

Be attentive and quiet when anyone is addressing the class

Cell phone use during school hours is a violation of district policies. This will be enforced!

Profane language, cussing, rude, foul and obscene behaviors will not be tolerated

No food (includes candy and gum) or drinks in class

Take care of your personal needs during passing periods

Classroom Procedures:

Upon entering the classroom, place bags and purses on the floor

Read board daily

Have textbook/iPad and supplies ready to go

Turn in any homework due within the first five minutes of class. Any homework not turned in at the beginning of class will be counted as LATE and late policy grading guidelines will be used.

If you were absent, check with eBackpack or teacher at the end of class about missing assignments.

School Wide Grading Categories:

Academic Achievement Assignments (Tests/Projects) – 60% of student’s grade average with a minimum of 2 assessments per 6 weeks. o If you fail a test, you have 24 hours from the time the test is graded and posted to request a retest. ALL missing assignments for the unit AND test corrections must be completed

BEFORE you will be allowed to retest. Retest will be the same content as original test but in a short answer format instead of multiple choice. o There is only ONE opportunity to retest. The highest score will be entered as the grade.

Academic Practice Assignments (Quizzes/Daily/Homework) – 40% of student’s grade average with a minimum of 8 assignments per 6 weeks. o There are no corrections or reaccomplishment for these types of assignments, so BEST work practices are expected.

School Wide Late Policy:

At Cuero High School, all students will complete all assignments by the assigned due date.

1 Day Late - 5 point deduction.

2 Days Late - 11 point deduction; parent is contacted if not turned in on 2 nd

day.

3 Days Late - 21 point deduction; parent is contacted if not turned in on 3 rd

day and student is assigned to the next available work session (before/after school, during lunch, or Saturday) until assignment is completed.

Late work more than 3 days late that is completed during the required work session can only receive a maximum grade of 70, although it will be graded from a starting point of 100.

Certain Achievement assignments (Projects) are given to students weeks in advance with a predetermined deadline communicated to students and parents in multiple ways. In situations like this, late work for an Achievement assignment (Project) will not be accepted and a zero grade will be given.

I cannot help you if I do not know what is going on. I want you to be successful. I will go above and beyond for you, but you must do your part as well. I am available before or after school on most days, please make an appointment and do not forget to get a pass.
