Students work with data-rich, real-world situations and applications in a curriculum that places algebra in an applications-based context and where investigations precede the introduction of formulas and expressions. Students will also be taught how to use graphing calculators to enhance their mathematical understanding. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have completed a comprehensive Algebra 1 program. Course Materials Textbook (required): Algebra 1 Common Core Digital Pathway: Website: www.pearsonsuccessnet.com Scientific Calculator Notebook (spiral or composition) Notebook paper, Pencils Course Objectives This course is based on the National Common Core Standards for Algebra 1 (http://www.corestandards.org/) This course is REQUIRED for graduation. Students will be required to complete an additional review assignment before the retake. The score earned on the retake will be the grade recorded. Semester Finals cannot be retaken. Formative Work (20% of grade) Homework, homework quizzes, warm-ups, group/class work, etc. As an incentive to do your assignments, you will receive up to an extra 3% on your summative assessment scores for scoring 100% on homework quizzes within the unit. Feedback (0% of grade) FA’s, exit slips, and other assessments that give students, teacher, and parents feedback on current content understanding. While this material is not counted within the overall grade it will help guide instruction to better prepare students for upcoming material and enhance overall learning. Test Categories (0% of grade) Tests will be broken down into main concepts to give students, parents, and the teacher an idea of what the student knows. Absence/Make-up Policy I do not take off points for late assignments but encourage you to complete the homework on time to stay on top of the content as well as be prepared for the homework quizzes. School rules regarding tardiness, absences and excessive absences will be enforced. Please refer to the student handbook. If absent, students should check the absent folders in the front of the classroom for handouts they missed. Students will need to check the class website (or meet with the teacher before or after school) to get the in class information and homework assignment. Academic Honesty At Everett High School we value honesty and integrity of work. Cheating on tests and homework by copying other people's work is not acceptable. Making copies of someone's computer disk is also considered cheating. When you cheat, you will receive a failing grade for that learning activity. Cheating also includes the aiding and abetting of cheating by others. Plagiarism, the act of borrowing another author’s work without crediting that author and thereby implying that it is one’s own, is academically dishonest and a form of cheating. Students found cheating or plagiarizing will be referred to school administration. Contact Information I am available most days after school (2:00 – 3:00).
