Introduction to Business Courses • The proposed Introduction to Business Courses consist of three one-credit courses. – BUS 100: Functional Areas of Business • Elective for business majors • Available to all undergraduate students at UW-L. – BUS 201: Business Core Learning Outcomes • Required for all business majors – BUS 202: Aspects of Professionalism • Required for all business majors Introduction to Business Courses • BUS 100: Functional Areas of Business – An introduction to Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Management, and Marketing. – Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: • Communicate the fundamental roles that each functional area of business plays within an organization. • Demonstrate an understanding of the way that each of these function areas works with one another within an organization. • Evaluate career choices within each business field. Introduction to Business Courses • BUS 201: Business Core Learning Outcomes – An introduction to the concepts of Business Communication, Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, the Global Context of Business, and Social Responsibility. – Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: • Explain the role of the Learning Outcomes in their education within the CBA. • Recognize and use the common vocabulary associated with the Learning Outcomes. • Access and utilize business communication tools. • Analyze business situations using the Learning Outcome Rubrics for Decision Making and Critical Thinking, the Global Context of Business, and Social Responsibility. • Communicate analysis outcomes in an effective manner by utilizing the Written Communication Rubric. Introduction to Business Courses • BUS 202: Aspects of Professionalism – An introduction to working in teams, leadership, and goal achievement in various work settings. – Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: • • • • • • Form teams and establish member roles within these teams. Create and implement accountability methods for their teams. Demonstrate team building skills. Identify and demonstrate how to run effective team meetings. Prepare and give professional team-based presentations. Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of teams established during this course.
