Elicit Performance/Provide Feedback: ACTIVITY: To illustrate the importance of professional image, divide the class into two groups and assign a leader from each group. Position group leaders so they are facing each other then ask each to take two steps to the right. Instruct their teams to form a single line behind their leader. Begin playing your selected walking music and ask the two groups to walk slowly past each other, analyzing the overall image of each person they meet on this nonverbal walk. Have the groups continue walking until they have passed by each other at least twice. Stop the music, ask students to take their seats, and have them think of the most professional image they observed during their walk. Now that they have the image in their minds, ask them to take the piece of candy (or penny) that you have placed at their seat and give it to the person who most clearly represents the strongest professional image. Determine which student received the most money or candy. Recognize the image projected by the chosen winner. Ask students to share why they made the selection(s) they did. Stress that everyone with whom we come in contact judges our image every day. Physical presentation is made up of your posture, walk, movements. After students watch videos of each other, let them discuss and ask classmates questions. Allow the students to volunteer and practice professional image. Integration of Technology: 1 hour Students will video each other giving a haircut. Address 2 questions: 1) What technologies were used, The Technology that will be used is a video camera and a computer. 2) Why is this lesson plan better having integrated technology? Using the video and allowing the students to watch video of themselves will allow them to maintain a professional image and if they need to work on any areas. Standards: The standards are based on the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and the Oklahoma Technology Centers. The class must be taught by a licensed Cosmetologist that holds an instructors license and is either working towards or holds a Bachelor degree in Education. Among completion of the program the students will be eligible to take the written and practical aspects of the State Board Licensure exam.
