PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES The objectives of this Request for Information (RFI) are to: 2. 1.1 Request information regarding a production studio solution for studio 7 in Henley TV facilities. The main focus of this studio is drama production. The design will form the basis of the redesign and refurbishing of 3 of the old analogue studios in Henley thus it is essential to make this design innovative and future proof catering for the latest digital developments. This document requests the supply of information and budgetary pricing of a technical equipment solution for a TV production studio. 1.2 Allow interested service providers an opportunity to submit required information to the SABC; 1.3 Evaluate information submitted by service providers; and 1.4 Invite all participants to the next phase of the tender process, commencing with a detailed briefing session. BACKGROUND The old analogue studio has to be replaced with a modern, innovative all digital design to make the studio up to date with all the latest digital equipment and lighting developments. The only mandatory requirement is that the studio equipment must be able to interface to the existing infrastructure in Henley TV facilities. Interfacing to the Telex Communication system, the Snell (Probel) RSW, Avid Editing system and IT infrastructure is required. 3. OVERVIEW OF REQUIREMENTS The design and equipping of a high definition drama production studio facility for the SABC in the old studio 7, making use of the latest technology. The way broadcasters produce content has changed dramatically with high definition and the continued merging of broadcast and IT technology which have to interface to existing infrastructure. Digital media will be captured on server and stored on digital tape. The gallery accommodates a full production team consisting of a Producer, Production Assistant, Vision mixer, Character generator operator, vision control, lighting and sound team with access to graphic facility. The studio integrates with, and connects to the Probel digital routing switcher in MCR, Transfer Area, Avid Edit system and Graphics. 4.
