SAN JACINTO COLLEGE
DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM
begin earning college credit while
still in high school! –
Juniors and Seniors

Juniors and Seniors can earn BOTH high
school AND college credit at the same time!

It’s up to your school what will be counted as
high school (Dual) credit.

High School Juniors and Seniors may enroll in
college classes to earn college credit only,
also. Getting a jump start to earning college
credit hours – you may even consider this for
summer. Student pays regular tuition for
these classes.
It will save you time to complete a certificate or
degree after graduation.
 It will save you money! SJC pays 70% & LPISD pays
30% and books! ( Normally about $120 - $237

tuition/fees, plus $85+ books)

Small classes to help you transition from high
school to the college setting while still living at
home.

LPISD PURCHASES BOOKS FOR DUAL CREDIT!
(This saves you and your family lots of
money - about $85 - $200+! See Ms. Brunson
about getting your books for academic
classes.)
Mrs. Seibert will have the books for
career/technology dual credit students.
SCANTRONS

You will need to check with your college
instructor to see if scantrons will be used
for tests. If so, you will need to purchase
your own at the SJC campus, in the
Bookstore (Student Center Building) or
from vending machines at various locations
on the campus.
 Each school district determines what
students can take for “dual credit”.

TEXAS LAW MANDATES THAT ALL STATE
SUPPORTED COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
HAVE A CORE CURRICULUM THAT WILL
AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFER TO ALL
TEXAS PUBLIC COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES.

The student must check with
PRIVATE & OUT OF STATE
COLLEGES - and for transfer of
TECHNICAL CLASSES.

SOME TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
 1. ATTEND CLASS!
 2. PREPARE FOR CLASS
 3. STUDY FOR TESTS AHEAD OF TIME
 4. BE AN ACTIVE LISTENER
 5. TAKE GOOD NOTES
 6. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK
 7. GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSOR
 ABSENCES:

SJC INSTRUCTORS
WILL REPORT
ABSENCES TO THE
OFFICE. THEN THAT
INFORMATION IS
SENT TO THE H.S.
 LATE
ARRIVALS:

STUDENTS WHO
ARRIVE AFTER
CLASSES BEGIN
WILL ENTER THE
FRONT DOOR &
SIGN IN AT THE
LPCC OFFICE.
MISSING EVEN ONE DAY – A STUDENT
MISSES CRUCIAL INFORMATION.
MORE THAN ONE ABSENCE, A
STUDENT RUNS THE RISK OF NOT
DOING WELL.
(You can compare this with missing a day
of work on a job.)
 REGARDLESS THE REASON FOR THE
ABSENCE – MATERIAL IS STILL
MISSED. (“H.S. excused” or not)

It’s the student’s Job To Keep Track!!
The Dual Credit office will keep the school
informed.
SJC instructors will post grades on “
Blackboard” accessed through the
SJC web page.
DUAL CREDIT FOLLOWS
THE COLLEGE CALENDAR
NOT THE High School calendar.

any disability information he/she wishes
to share with instructors or other college
personnel.
 For special accommodations, a
student must meet with the college
counselor to make arrangements.
Documentation must be submitted.



Please set up your SOS account.

will correspond with you. PLEASE CHECK

While beginning college early has many benefits, it
also comes with many responsibilities!
 College classes are more work and more independent
study time is required. The same curriculum is used
for high school students as with “regular” college
students. There must be adequate time in students’
schedules to allow for college study for each course.
 Students need self discipline, maturity, good study
skills and time management.
 Good attendance is required. Projects, papers, etc.
must be turned in by certain deadlines. There are
usually no allowances for late items.
