MSJC Administrative Technology Plan 2008 Component 2. Infrastructure - SJC Task and Timeline 2/17/2016 Component 2. Infrastructure - SJC This is a look at the existing technical infrastructure on the San Jacinto campus and future needs for the campus. Goal Statement: The College must ensure that the infrastructure at San Jacinto is reliable, current and efficient. The infrastructure plan should consider the campus need at 10,000 and 15,000 FTE and cost for the build out and renewal. Committee: Fred Madore, Co-Chair X X Unnamed, Co-Chair x x Area of Emphasis: Local Area Network (LAN) Management Tools and Efficiency of LAN Components and Configurations Wireless Networks Capacity and growth in Fiber and Cabling Staffing Needs / Training Needs Questions and issues to be resolved: 1. A detailed map of the cabling / fiber infrastructure 2. How many routers and switches do we have? How old? Plan obsolescence of each piece of equipment. Identify vulnerabilities in the system by mapping fail-over and single point of failure connections. Map the system with red/yellow/green to show district liability. 3. An analysis and comparison with current infrastructure to facilities plan 4. Identify all datacomm equipment by model, serial, and maintenance. Plan obsolescence of each piece of equipment. 5. Identify vulnerabilities in the system by mapping fail-over and single point of failure connections. Map the system with red/yellow/green to show district liability. 6. Analyze data packet and bandwidth. 7. Analyze growth patterns and needs. 8. Discuss trends, emerging technologies that affect infrastructure. 9. How many MDFs and IDFs do we have on campus? Do all IDFs have figure runs? 10. Identify CAT5 and copper. 11. Is all cabling labeled and documented? 12. What types of servers are utilized? Is this standard for the district? 13. Analyze data management and backup? 14. What type of network operating systems do we use? 15. What bandwidth is provided to the desktop? Is this ample? Future plans and needs? 16. How does the instructional and administrative network converge? Adequate? Future? 17. How is wireless supported and managed? How can this model be enhanced? What kind of authentication is required to access the wireless internet? 18. What is the need for and plan to have adequate wireless coverage? 19. How much system downtime is required for routine maintenance on LAN? 20. How do we notify users about scheduled and unscheduled downtime? 21. Do we have adequate staff to handle the equipment? 106746193D:\106746193.doc Page: 1 MSJC Administrative Technology Plan 2008 Component 2. Infrastructure - SJC Task and Timeline 2/17/2016 Task.
