Please note the following policies for GTAs:
1. Duties consist of assisting with the instructional program of Undergraduate or Master’s level
classes, seminars, or labs ONLY as assigned by the head of the academic unit. Only PhD GTAs can
assist with Master’s level courses. No GTA may assist with PhD level courses. Duties cannot include acting
as a research assistant for the personal research of any faculty member.
2. The student you name must also apply! Preference for a specific student, particularly if you have worked
with that student in the past, will be taken into consideration; however, student assignments can’t be
guaranteed.
3. The maximum number of hours of work per semester is 120 (average nine hours/week).
Please note: You may be required to subtract up to six hours from the total to allow your Teaching Assistant
to attend the mandatory Teaching Development Days for TAs at the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
4. Duties are assigned in writing by the head of the academic unit and should be received by the Teaching
Assistant prior to, or at the start of, the semester in which the GTA is to be held.
5. Changes in the agreed-upon work assignment must be approved in writing by the student, faculty
member, and head of the academic unit.
