ARTICLE #1 – FEBRUARY 2014 Did you know the Red Cross has been serving Colorado for 100 years? Below is just a snapshot of their incredible history: Started locally, with a handful of dedicated volunteers in 1914 and today about 96% of its workforce is made up of volunteers. In 1916, Red Cross volunteers launched a service to produce hospital supplies and comfort bags for wounded servicemen, and visited wounded soldiers and their families in Colorado. The first deployment of Colorado Red Cross volunteers was to help the people of Japan after an earthquake in 1923. In 1934, the Colorado Red Cross distributed 90,000 barrels of flour to assist needy families in Colorado as a result of the Great Depression. In 1960, the Red Cross in Colorado ran a ski program for war amputees as a way to help them rehabilitate. Please join us in 2014 as we celebrate a century of service, remember the many lives touched by Red Cross volunteers over the years and build the foundation for the Red Cross to continue serving Colorado for another 100 years and beyond. ARTICLE #2 – FEBRUARY-MARCH 2014 The Red Cross is celebrating a Century of Service in Colorado this year! With 100 years of history in our state, nearly everyone has been touched by the Red Cross in some way, whether directly or through a loved one, coworker or friend. If you or someone you know has been impacted by the Red Cross, the Red Cross wants to hear from you -- whether your life was saved, you provided CPR or First Aid, you or your family received assistance after a disaster, you are a member of the military and received help during war, or you volunteered for the Red Cross and your experience impacted you in a significant way. If you have stories to share about the Red Cross, they want to hear your story! Your story might be selected to be showcased on their website. You could also receive a free Red Cross T-shirt and your story will be featured on our Web site and social media. Submit your story now, as all T-shirts will be mailed out by May 2014! ARTICLE #3 – APRIL-MAY 2014 The Red Cross has been there for Coloradans during all the major disasters, wars and crises of the past century. They are celebrating a century of service in Colorado in 2014.
