DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 3515 PAY GRADE: 019 CLASS TITLE: INSURANCE ANALYST I ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work performing analyses, reviews, and evaluations of insurance policy forms, contracts or insurance rate schedules or conducting market conduct examinations or investigations of alleged violations of the Insurance Code. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Reviews and examines insurance rate and form filings to determine compliance with state insurance laws; determines if rates are reasonable and adequate and if policy forms comply with state regulations and investigates the conduct of insurers. Assists in the field market conduct examinations of HMO's, life and health and property and casualty companies by verifying the application of rates and compliance with rating laws through review of insurance contracts, rates, rating plans, statistical coding, manual rules, policy forms, endorsements, company activities and related procedures, and analyses of proposed changes in any of these areas. Communicates with insurance company officials or insurance company representatives. Investigates the activities and conduct of insurers, insurer representatives and related entities. Conducts witness interviews. Collects evidence relating to questionable insurance transactions. Compiles investigative/examination reports for submission to the Division of Legal Services. Prepares special statistical analyses and reports. Testifies in legal proceedings. Responds to compliance inquiries. Acts as a representative of the Insurance Commissioner as required. Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 3515-INSURANCE ANALYST I-CS (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions in the employing agency.) Knowledge of the principles of insurance and risk management. Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to understand and apply Florida Statutes administrative rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to evaluate contracts, rates, rating forms, policy forms, manuals and other materials for compliance with regulations. Ability to prepare and analyze statistical data. Ability to prepare reports. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in risk management/insurance; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional experience in field or insurance company underwriting, rate analysis, insurance claims, market conduct examinations, or insurance investigations; or A high school diploma and completion of the Department of Insurance's Insurance Analyst I training program.
