CAREER INTERNSHIP – SUMMER 2011
The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB), an instrumentality of the California Department of
Food and Agriculture, is funded by the state’s 1,700 dairy families. With headquarters in South
San Francisco and Modesto, the CMAB is one of the largest commodity boards in the United
States. The CMAB executes advertising, public relations, research and retail and foodservice
promotional programs on behalf of California dairy products, including Real California Milk and
Real California Cheese.
Looking to the future of the California dairy industry, the California Milk Advisory Board’s
Career Internship Program will help train the dairy leaders of tomorrow through an intense
hands-on curriculum offering a broad scope of experience in the dairy industry. The six-week
program is designed to give participants a clear understanding of the California dairy industry
from all vantage points.
During their six-week assignment, participants will be involved in field assignments with dairy
partners including California dairy farmers, cheese and milk processors; retailers; industry
groups including lobbying and regulatory groups; promotional groups involving advertising,
public relations and nutritional education agencies and councils.
The deadline for applications is March 4, 2011; interviews will be conducted in March/April.
The Career Internship will begin in June. You may fill out the application online and email
directly to diriqui@cmab.net.

Conditions of Career Internship Program
The following is a list of the benefits to which you will be entitled and the responsibilities, which

employee of CMAB. He/she will receive monetary compensation for the work involved
at the standard daily pay rate of $135.00 (for 8 hour day). Partial days worked will be
paid accordingly at a rate of $16.87 per hour worked. If intern is unavailable to work on
any given weekday, no pay will be granted. The career intern will be covered by CMAB’s
workers compensation and unemployment insurance for the duration of the program.
No paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance, pension or other benefits will be available
to the CMAB career intern.
2.
The career intern’s employment will last for a period of approximately six weeks during
the summer for which he/she is accepted. CMAB may discontinue the internship during

Employment is at the pleasure of CMAB.
3.
At all times during the program, the career intern will be a highly visible “emissary” of
CMAB, an instrumentality of the California Department of Food & Agriculture and the
State of California, therefore the highest standards of personal and professional conduct
and integrity are required.
4.
The career intern will be required to follow CMAB’s standard operating procedures and
personnel policies as directed. If he/she is uncertain as to what duties or procedures are
expected, he/she will seek clarification, where feasible, from his/her assigned

health insurance during the program since no coverage (except workers compensation)
will be provided by CMAB. The applicant is required to provide CMAB with the name,
address and telephone number of his/her family member or other person to be notified
in case of an emergency and that of his/her personal or family physician. Further, as
part of the application, the career intern consents in advance to any necessary medical
treatment during the course of the program.
8.
The career intern must not disclose any confidential or privileged information to which
he/she gains access as a result of participating in the CMAB Career Internship Program.
9.
The career intern is not permitted to make statements to sponsoring career internship
partners, members of the public, or the press that purport to represent the official
opinion of CMAB, unless such statement is a part of his/her specific job responsibilities
or is authorized in advance by CMAB.
10.
At all times the career intern is required to be punctual for his/her assignments. He/she
will, without exception, call both his/her sponsoring career internship partner and
CMAB supervisor if he/she is unable to attend or expects to be late.
11.
It is the career intern’s responsibility to dress consistent with the role of a highly visible
“emissary” for CMAB. He/she shall dress in a manner and have an appearance that is
appropriate and professional in light of the environment in which he/she will work, the
duties of the jobs, and the impression he/she will set with CMAB’s sponsoring career
internship partners and others. CMAB’s program supervisor is authorized to interpret
this policy and his interpretations shall be given deference.
12.
Workdays may vary in length according to the schedule of assignments. The career
intern may be required to attend assignments in various locations within the state of
California. This will require him/her to be available for traveling and spending a week at
a time away from home during the entire term. (Any applicant whose schedule or
responsibilities do not allow this flexibility to travel and attend assignments away from
home should not apply for the program.)
3
13.
In addition to his/her regular salary, the career intern will be reimbursed for out-ofpocket costs for travel and hotel accommodations necessitated by his/her work for
CMAB and sponsoring partner, according to CMAB’s standard expense reimbursement
