‘Revealing Yeshua’
Excerpts from Exodus 7
Exodus 7:16 ‘And you shall say to him, YHWH God of the Hebrews has sent me to you,
saying, Let my people go that they may serve Me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto
you would not hear.’
Seven times in these chapters, God says through Moses to Pharaoh, “Let my people go!”
5:1 ‘Thus says YHWH God of Israel, Let my people go that they may hold a feast to Me in
the wilderness.’
8:1,20 ‘And YHWH spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him ‘Thus says YHWH:
“Let My people go that they may serve Me.’
‘And YHWH said to Moses “Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes
out to the water. Then say to him, ‘Thus says YHWH: Let My people go that they may serve
Me.’
9:1,13 ‘Then YHWH said to Moses “Go in to Pharaoh and tell him, ‘Thus says the LORD
God of the Hebrews: “Let My people go that they may serve Me.’
‘Then YHWH said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to
him ‘Thus says YHWH God of the Hebrews: “Let My people go that they may serve Me’
10:3 ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go that they
may serve Me.’
It was not right for Pharaoh to keep the Israelites in bondage. They were not Pharaoh’s
people; they were God’s people. God was intent on securing Israel’s unconditional release.
They were no longer to be slaves but free ‘upright’ men.
Leviticus 26:13 ‘I am YHWH your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that
you should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you
go upright.’
Acts 7:34 ‘I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt and I have
heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them.’
Yeshua echoed the words of Isaiah when He declared that He too had come to set the
captives free.
Isaiah 61:1 ‘The Spirit of Adonai YHWH is upon Me because YHWH has anointed Me to
preach good tidings to the meek. He has sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim
liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.’
John 8:36 ‘If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.’
What are we freed from? We are freed from the bondage of sin.
Romans 6:17,18,22 ‘But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have
obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free
from sin, you became the servants of righteousness.’ ‘But now being made free from sin
and become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness and the end everlasting life.’
What was / is the purpose of their and our freedom?
The Israelites were freed to serve. It was for His glory that they were to come out of slavery,
to be able to go into the wilderness, make atonement for their sins and worship Him.
This was the grand purpose of the exodus, in which God saved His people for His glory.1
Yeshua died and paid the price and we have been redeemed, purchased and set free.
This is the purpose of salvation in Jesus Christ. We too are freed to serve!
He died to accomplish not political freedom but spiritual freedom:
- Freedom from the world system Galatians 1:4 ‘Who gave Himself for our sins that he
might deliver us from this present evil world according to the will of God and our
Father:
- Freedom from a vain and empty life 1 Peter 1:18 ‘knowing that you were not
redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct
received by tradition from your fathers’
- Freedom from iniquity Titus 2:14 ‘Who gave himself for us that He might redeem us
from all iniquity and purify to Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.’
The exodus from Egypt reveals the pattern of his redemption. Until God’s Spirit comes to set
us free, we are held captive by Satan, who keeps us enslaved in our sins. We are now freed
from bondage to Satan and the world to serve the true and living God!
In this first instance the Israelites are freed to hold a feast. These feasts were the feasts of God
and part of our worship. They are His feasts, for Him. I hope you are celebrating the feast of
Tabernacles this week!
