Spanish V - Summer Assignment
Use the following websites to find articles and read the daily news in Spanish. Choose from a variety of topics/themes – politics,
sciences, personalities/celebrities, social issues, economics, sports, etc. Choose a different Spanish-speaking country per report.
Fill out the attached worksheet for each report (7 total). Summaries should be 100-150 words, typed.






READ, READ, READ! (en español, por supuesto  libros, revistas, periódicos)
Keep a journal to practice writing.
Speak Spanish as often as you can.
Listen to Spanish radio and television—rent movies and play them in Spanish—do all that you can to practice listening to
the language.
Review grammar notes, books or websites and PRACTICE!
LISTENING:
If you have cable, try to watch Univisión, Telemundo or Galavisión. Talk shows can be entertaining as can the “telenovelas”.
Also, there are many radio stations on AM that are Spanish. They sometimes speak REALLY fast, but the commercials are
slower. You don’t have to like the music—just to keep your ear accustomed to hearing Spanish.






SPEAKING:
Please try to practice speaking on your own. Get together with your peers who are also taking the course next year and spend
an hour talking only in Spanish. If you work with native speakers, converse with them often. If you are traveling to a Spanish
speaking country this summer, use the language often and every chance you get with natives who you meet. Take advantage of
every opportunity you get to use the language.
GRAMMAR:
Review present indicative, preterit and imperfect tenses of verbs. Pay special attention to SPELLING and ACCENTS—these areas
are where the problems exist in using these tenses. We will be reviewing these tenses first at the beginning of the year, but
practicing other tenses will be beneficial as well. ¿El subjuntivo, por ejemplo?
Review any other areas of grammar that you feel are necessary for you: reflexive verbs, direct and indirect object pronouns, por
vs. para, ser vs. estar, accents.





It is recommended that students spend 30-60 minutes a week over the summer reviewing their Spanish skills. The principal idea
behind the suggested assignments is keeping Spanish skills alive over the summer and improving speaking, listening, and
reading comprehension through practice.
