Cooperative Business Design … In everything we do at eDOC Innovations, we believe in challenging the status quo of business through our cooperative CUSO business model; we believe we can change the future of business in our industry; we believe in innovating with industry thought leaders; and we believe in credit unions owning the future their imaging content. The way we challenge the status quo is by providing ownership in our organization and engaging our owners in active conversation; by engaging owners and peers in collaborative development projects to build technology together; and by challenging culture, operational processes and business development ideas. Our solutions influence culture, are intuitive and simple to use, build operational foundations and provide business growth opportunities. How can we serve you? Walking the Talk at eDOC Today eDOC Innovations’ collaborative business model is an active participant in the cuasterisk.com network. Internet Archive CU … a real-world success, welcome Jordan Modell! A Cooperative Business Question Social habits and passions of members are creating a culture of mobility within our society. With such unprecedented pace of change, and the related impacts on delivering mobile solutions to members due to advancements in mobile technology, how does a credit union effectively create a culture, competency and business strategy that will be a solid foundation for the requirements of today and the framework for a strong tomorrow? Introduce: Core Image Processing Core image processing is the concept of strategically creating a business focus that can affect core cultural requirements in imaging ; develop and build core competencies; and engage core business strategies through imaging technology and processes that will automate image acquisition, drives operational efficiency through image processing, and manages image content for the duration of its lifecycle. Comparative Learning … It is often helpful when considering new ideas and solutions, to look comparatively at other sources … looking for patterns and related needs. Our example for today is … Hang on to your pencils! The Science of Our Industry Intro to Cooperative Business Science 101 We can learn from the scientific world, let’s explore “What is Atom Economy?” The concept of Atom Economy was developed by Barry Trost of Stanford University (US), for which he received the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 1998. It is a method of expressing how efficiently a particular reaction makes use of the reactant atmos. The Concept of Yield In “Green Chemistry”, chemists need to measure the efficiency of chemical reactions in order to compare alternative routs to products and their associated economic and environmental costs. Percentage yield has long been used for this purpose, as it compares the expected product quantity with the actual product obtained. The Problem of Yield … Waste in Processes A high yield is desirable, but is not the whole story. For example; The reaction once used to manufacture phenol from benzene generates 1 mole of sodium sulphite (126g), for every mole of phenol (88g) produced. This may be acceptable if there is sufficient demand for the sodium sulphite, but if not, it presents a serious waste management problem, and adds significantly to costs. The Problem of Yield … Waste in Processes It is much better to reduce the amount of waste generated in the first place, rather than treat it at a later date, and this is an important aim of green chemistry. A yield calculation does not indicate how efficiently the reactants have been used in generating the desired product, and so does not indicate how effectively waste is being reduced. Applying Atomic Economy to Our Business … What can our cooperative businesses learn from Atomic Economy? Consistently measure efficiency (Business Planning) Compare alternative processes (Explore Business Processes) Evaluate economic impacts (Evaluate Related Process Costs) Yield vs. Waste Reduce waste upfront (Automate Acquisition & Process) Yield doesn’t always reflect efficiency (Culture and Competency) Applied relative learning in Atomic Economy can help us build strong operational foundations in imaging culture, competency and business strategy. Business Planning: Core Imaging Culture … There are many ways to look at your business requirements. An effective leader focuses on forward, offensive movement. That often requires changes in thinking, or in process; and in some instances systems investment is also required. Creating an imaging culture first requires an established vision. Vision is critical to the long-term sustainability of every credit union. Things you can do today: Learn from others Evaluate motives and objectives Choose to inspire others Become a topic expert Engaging in strategy sessions with peers or other industry and topic expert leaders can bring ideas to you and inspire within you the emergence of a vision, is an effective option for someone without, or looking to enhance an imaging culture vision. Evaluate Analyze Identify Exploring Process: Core Imaging Competency Establishing functional activities that emanate the cultural vision to stake holders has the greatest opportunity for success. Involving rank and file team members in not only a lecture of your vision but helping to build the framework for their contributions to vision is an effective way to generate positive energy, enthusiasm, and draw out skeptics, while you outline the sound business reasoning of the vision. Tactical activities such as: 1. Evaluating current documents for relative value 2. Analyzing current processes for business reasoning 3. Identifying document or process “silos” Automation: Core Imaging Competency … Creating core competency requires core effort from executives, and all stake holders, marching towards the same objective. An effective business plan not only outlines the vision but also the incremental steps to get there. Year one may simply be the recognition of needed change, with a simple project to identify all existing paper forms; building towards years two and three where activities include process analytics or consulting engagements to strategize and bring outside objectivity to operational practices. The important point is that you strive, rather than just survive. Automation: Core Imaging Competency … Technology will play a role in your strategy, what are we focused on building together? Automate image acquisition in all types of processes and content, (I.e. Teller receipts, checks, account documents, back-office and accounting, HR and any other type of paper process). Drive efficiency through image process automation and workflow. Secure and manage the results of image processing, (the actual image content), for the lifecycle of the image. Manage security for content accessibility and processing. Mitigate risk through automated business processes and image retention guidelines. Build a centralized, secure, mobile-accessible framework to deliver service to staff and members anytime. External Influences: A Social Passion … We started our day with the observation that member mobility is a directly related to our Core Image Processing strategy. External influences of the members we serve, their habits and passions, are placing rising demands on our business strategies. Often credit unions become trapped in the mindset that innovation is strictly a technology based decision … becoming paralyzed by the analysis of technology and wondering when to jump in. External Influences: A Social Passion … However, if we watch the members and the social passions that move their behaviors, we learn that what we are really doing today is making investments of infrastructure, with a focus on growing trends that are impacting consumers and which today are leveling the playing field. Consider the evidence. Number of mobile device connections In the U.S., it is predicted that mobile device connections will increase at a rate of 12% over the next four years. This run rate is unprecedented and this trend will continue to catapult mobile device sales, dwarfing personal computer sales. Graph by BI Intelligence Number of mobile device connections Last year a major event occurring in this mobile evolution … mobile devices outsold desktop and notebook computing devices. The implications to this social trend are worth our consideration. Graph by BI Intelligence Results of Social Passion …. We are seeing a new generation created … – – – – New economies New system structures New technologies New member and operational opportunities Results of Social Passion …. Who is the ultimate beneficiary? – Those who are courageous enough to look beyond their current organization – Identify strengths and challenges – Embrace change – Foster innovation – Accept responsibility to customer feedback – Look for industry trends and opportunities – Encourage planned abandonment – Demand measureable results Think about this … Consumers are changing the landscape and leveling the playing field by making the technology investments that historically a credit union would have to make. As a result, being prepared to harness the opportunity today may well be more about “How well did I invest in infrastructure to capture the opportunity?” It isn’t solely technology I’m talking about here … This naturally is changing everything… So, how do I apply what we have learned into my own world? What you should know about E-Signature Law The adoption of the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) in most states and the passage of Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN) at the federal level in 2000 solidified the legal landscape for use of electronic records and electronic signatures in commerce. Dispelling eSign Myths Rule of General Validity Both ESIGN and UETA establish that electronic records and signatures carry the same weight and legal effect as traditional paper documents and handwritten signatures, stating: “A document or signature cannot be denied legal effect or enforceability solely because it is in electronic form. “ Automation: ProDOC DocLogic 7’s ProDOC modules automate business processes and image acquisition to create a culture of electronic document processing and exchange, while enhancing member experience to drive sustainability and future business opportunity. A commitment to the future, commitment to the member, commitment to the mission, and commitment to the process. Why have a commitment to collaboration? Through ownership and cooperation we can create businesses that change the current growth statistics of our industry. We can promote the principals of collaboration, innovation and cooperation by consulting with other credit union leaders and innovators on the nuances of starting and working with a CUSO in helping them develop business plans focused on the collaborative strengths they bring to the table. Driving Business Innovation Generating business innovation requires business leaders to look beyond the present, and conceptualize business for the future; peering through the lenses of tradition to see the horizon of tomorrow’s nontraditional or “collaborative” opportunities. In truth, tomorrows opportunities may come as a result of today’s collaborative energy. Traditional business teaches leaders to “color in the lines”. Collaboration conversely to, “Reach beyond the lines and explore what collectively can be achieved.” Why Strategic Results Matter New Opportunities Services Operations For Your Credit Union Thank you to our owners and peers!
